How is a tied baseball game resolved?

Under normal circumstances, there are no ties in baseball. if the score is tied after a full 9 innings, then the game will continue until a team scores a run and that inning is completed. innings beyond the 9th inning are known as "extra innings" (there is no term "overtime" in baseball). if it's the visting team that scores, then the home team will get one last at bat to try and tie or win the game. if it's the home team that scores, then the game is automatically over, the home team is the winner and it's known as a "walk off". the only games that can end in a tie are pre-season games, in 2002 the all-star game ended in a tie in the 11th inning (due to the commissioner of baseball declaring a tie after all the pitchers had been used).

What was the original team name of the New York Yankees and how did they get that name?

The New York Yankees franchise began in Baltimore, and were called the Baltimore Orioles. The team played in the American League of Professional Baseball Clubs which became part of the Major Leagues in 1901. The team was then moved to New York in 1903, and played at Hilltop Park in Manhattan. The ballpark was built at one of the highest points in Manhattan and so the team was then called the Highlanders. The name Highlanders was also the name of a British military unit The Gordon Highlanders, and the name of the teams President was Joseph Gordon. As early as 1904 The press began to refer to the team as "the Yankees." The name Yankees was more commonly used in the coming years, and after the Highlanders moved to the Polo Grounds the reference to the team as the Highlanders no longer applied as they no longer played at a higher elevation. The team name was then changed to the more commonly used name the Yankees in 1913.
