Its irony lies in the fact that most of the Geats had deserted Beowulf in battle.

The Geats resolve did not hold in the heat of battle because they feared death, and the Dragon.

Beowulf recalls his long reign over the Geats: he's been king for fifty years, and all the neighboring kings were too afraid to attack or challenge him. He also behaved honestly and justly, which makes him feel a little better, because he knows that God won't be angry with him in the afterlife.

Beowulf came from a culture where the highest level of respect and loyalty was given to overlords. Warriors swore blood oaths to their overlords, and believed the most valorous thing a warrior could hope to do, was to die in an act of bravery, or in the service of their lord. Hrothgar was brave in battle, he was a honest and generous, and broke no oaths. He generously rewarded Beowulf. Beowulf is the same. At the end of his battle, he seeks to divide the treasure he won from the defeat of the dragon amongst his kinsman, despite the fact that none of them helped him to fight, save for Wiglaf, who was a native of Sweden, but still considered Beowulf his kinsman.

some say the pagan trdiion is the opposite of chritianity. this isn't really true, but it is an aspect of the tradition. as far as I've understood, the pagan tradition refers to monsters, magic and things of those sorts that chritianity doent believe in. you should Google it to be sure :)

Grendel is your classic "outcast." Because of the sins of his forefathers, specifically Cain (who killed his brother Abel), Grendel and other descendents of Cain were banished by God. The beast Grendel lives alone in a dark, cold cave. Night after night he hears the Danes loudly celebrating in Herot (the mead hall) and it drives him mad with rage and envy. He slaughters the Danes because of this. So at the root of his attacks are the very human emotions of sadness, isolation and envy. Grendel is actually a pretty sympathetic character, when you get right down to it!

The lieutenant recognizes Beowulf as a hero by witnessing his bravery in battle, his strength, and his willingness to face formidable foes. Beowulf's actions and reputation as a mighty warrior make it clear to the lieutenant that he possesses heroic qualities.

Unferth teases Beowulf verbally. He claims that Beowulf lost a swimming competition to Breca, but Beowulf counters by telling the story of how he defeated Breca and many seamonsters. Unferth then tells Beowulf that he will lose to Grendel next time the two fight.

Hrothgar builds Heorot to establish a great hall where his warriors can gather, feast, and celebrate their victories. It serves as a symbol of his power, hospitality, and a place to showcase his wealth and generosity to his people and visitors.

Grendel avoids attacking Hrothgar because Hrothgar is protected by a powerful magical charm that prevents Grendel from harming him or entering his mead hall, Heorot. This charm comes from Hrothgar's ancestor, who made a pact with Grendel's ancestor to ensure their safety.

Beowulf has humility when he is taking to Hrothgar about about fighting Grendel, and says "He has no idea the art of war...no weapons therefore...unarmed shall he face me." (47) This means that Grendel has no weapons or armour or skill so Beowulf will not use his..aka an unfair fight.

In the epic poem Beowulf, the titular character is called upon to help the men of the Heorot mead hall, which is being terrorized by the monster Grendel. Grendel is a demon who eats men who is apparently motivated to attack because of hearing songs coming from the hall that detail God's creation of earth.

Grendel attacked Heorot Hall at night, sneaking in during a celebration that lasted for 12 years, causing death and chaos among King Hrothgar's warriors.

Beowulf is a hero character in the film or the poem of Beowulf. In the story he kills a monster called Grendel who didn't allow people to have feast in the mead Hall { a big hall where the people have feast and enjoy themselves. Beowulf also kills Grendel's mother in the story who was hard to defeat than Grendel but he managed to get his sword and he slashed her neck.

Then Beowulf tried to defeat a dragon but he failed and died in this try. He died because he was affected by the poison in the dragon. He came to the king of the danish called Hrothgar. He was impressed by Beowulf and made him the king. If there is any mistake please forgive about that.
