That is depending on the age of the person. Children 8 and under should have a body core temperature of 98.6 F and it also depends on how the temp was taken. All body temp's should be taken either oral or rectal. < 4years of age rectal >4 years of age oral. This is the only way to get a correct core body temp. 96.8 F is a little low and if it is a newborn-3 year old child you should check the temp rectally if 96.8 that way warm blankets wrap the infant snugly and recheck temp in 30 minutes, if at that time the temp is still low get your child to a hospital on the double, he/she may be having trouble. No. 99.2 IS a fever; however it is only considered a very Low Grade fever. Considering that a ' normal ' reading in body temperature is 98.6 , a reading of 99.2 would be considered quite low & not a cause for alarm.

I've experimented with this when I had a terrible sunburn, I was red as a lobster and even had chills - I took my temperature and it was 96.5! Scared me!

From what I've heard 98.7 F is considered normal, or 37.8 oC. It also depends on what age you are someimes so answers may vary.

But now there are new ways on the forehead instead of the simple feeling of the forehead. There is the Exergen thermometer that works by simply swiping straight across the forehead (sometimes not completely effective)
