The first mention of Adam's departure was episode #205, season 7, The Brass Box, original air date: September 26, 1965. Adam was sent to take care of Ponderosa business but never returned.

When the series ended after 14 seasons it was unknown that it would be the final season. There was never a finale filmed that would have tied up loose ends. In the real world, the actual location where the exteriors (and some interiors) for the show was filmed became somewhat of a tourist attraction at it's location near Truckee, CA. As a child I visited the ranch in Truckee after the last season, the horses were still in the corral.

William Marshall played the role of Thomas Bowers in a 1964 episode of Bonanza.

There were a couple. "The Last Hunt" was season 1 and "Winter Kill" is season 11 or 12, I think.

The character Little Joe did not die on the tv series Bonanza. He was the only of the brothers to marry during the regular tv series. The loss of Dan Blocker's character, Hoss Cartwright, was never depicted on the final season of Bonanza (1972-73); there were only mentions of his loss w/o explanation. It wasn't revealed until the 1988 follow-up series "Bonanza: The Next Generation," that Hoss drowned trying to save another man's life.

The writers were a little vague whe scripting Adam Cartwright out of the Ponderosa. The general idea was he was going back east. Originally, they had hoped to have Adam return periodically but things didn't work out as planned.

In later years actor Pernel Roberts regretting his decision to leave the series, but once gone, there was no turning back.

The episode aired in 1963 and was titled Marie, My Love. As with all of the Cartwright women, Little Joe's mother met an untimely death after falling from a horse on the Ponderosa.

Bonanza ran for 14 seasons, from September 1959 to January 1973.

colt 45 (His wife said it was a Colt 38 special which she sold at Auction, and the picture is a 38, but the next picture where Little Joe is laying down-that gun is a 45LC, you can tell by the barrel and the Cylinder which is bigger, the 45 hole takes up most of the metal. He did use other rented guns on the show, so apparently his personal gun was a 38, I seen one picture of a gun that was all engraved that was suppose to have been given to him by Hoss (Dan Blocker). Also the one sold had plain plastic type grips and on the show they were Ivory, hope this helps-Fan!)

Bonanza was a drama/western series that aired for a total of 14 years (1959 - 1973).The first season was 32 episodes long, which seems very long compared to the usual 22 episode season order most 1-hour dramas get today, but in actuality that was a short season at that time. The usual season for Bonanza was 34 episodes until 1969 when the order became reduced with the final season only 15 episodes.

There is no episode where it shows Hoss dying. He is simply in one episode and gone the next. Dan Blocker, who played the loveable Eric "Hoss" Cartwright, died from a blood clot the summer before the show's 14th and final season. I believe that Little Joe takes his girlfriend to a lake and tells her that his brother used to love that place. I think that is about the only reference that was made to Hoss that season. It's probably the first one or two episodes of the final season. The story in the newspaper was that Hoss was supposed to get married that season, but after Dan Blocker died they decided to have Little Joe get married. Sometimes bits of shows are cut when they are syndicated, so if you don't see this scene in an episode, you might try again when another channel runs the show.

The mothers of the Cartwright boys are Elizabeth, Inger, and Marie.

Bonanza was the term for a large gold strike during the 'gold fever' days of the old west. The Poderosa was worth it's weight in gold with timber and cattle as a source of revenue, a real 'bonanza' for the lucky Cartwrights.
