Bronchitis

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the air passages between the nose and the lungs, including the windpipe or trachea and the larger air tubes of the lung that bring air in from the trachea (bronchi), restricting air flow to and from the lungs. Acute, or short term, bronchitis is usually a viral infection, but can also be a bacterial infection and can heal without complications. Chronic, or long term, bronchitis is a sign of serious lung disease that may be slowed, but cannot be cured.

400 Questions

What effect does bronchitis have on respiration?

Bronchitis leads to inflammation and narrowing of the bronchial tubes, which can obstruct airflow and make breathing more difficult. This results in symptoms such as coughing, mucus production, wheezing, and shortness of breath. As a consequence, the efficiency of gas exchange in the lungs is compromised, potentially leading to decreased oxygen levels in the blood. Chronic bronchitis can further exacerbate these effects, causing long-term respiratory complications.

Why is prednisone prescribed along with an anti biotic for bronchitis?

Prednisone is a corticosteroid that helps reduce inflammation in the airways, making it easier for patients with bronchitis to breathe. When prescribed alongside an antibiotic, it can help alleviate symptoms caused by inflammation while the antibiotic addresses any underlying bacterial infection. This combination can be particularly beneficial in cases of acute bronchitis where inflammation and infection contribute to the patient's discomfort and respiratory issues.

What kind of inhaler would be used for bronchitis?

For bronchitis, a healthcare provider may prescribe a bronchodilator inhaler, such as a beta-agonist, to help relax and open the airways, improving airflow. In some cases, corticosteroid inhalers may be used to reduce inflammation in the airways. The choice of inhaler depends on the severity and type of bronchitis, so it's important to follow a doctor's recommendations.

If on antibiotic and puffer is bronchitis contagious?

Well, bronchitis can be a virus or a bacteria. If you have a viral version, your antibiotic will not work. So I would give yourself a couple days off of school/work to give both the puffer and the antibiotic a chance to work.

Is bronchitis affecting bladder?

No. Wrong end. Bronchitis affects the bronchial tubes leading to the lungs.

When are symptoms of bronchitis shown?

Symptoms of bronchitis begin to appear in about 3-4 days after infection. Symptoms include coughing up mucus, wheezing and fatigue. If you think you may have bronchitis, see your local physician as soon as possible.

First of all, please use correct spelling and puctuation. I'ts hard to understand what you are trying to say.

I myself, however do know what you mean. I make people itch around me. I also make them sneeze. It happens over and over, everywhere I go. I have had this for about 18 years. Started in high school. I have had to quit several office type jobs because I make others itch. People have actually ASKED me if I am the one making them itch. How much more proof does one need? (Doctors don't believe me)

Let me know if you would like to chat privately. I am trying to find others with this disease so we can find a solution to it. I have been to about 10 doctors and all have told me I have nothing. Not even scabies, which is what I thought originally.
