There is not a 2.3. It is a 2.8. The oil filter is on the top drivers side about the middle of the engine. There is a "cover" with a hex bolt in the center to remove it. The cts is a very easy oil change.

Yes, there are a few known issues with the 4.1L known as the "HT4100" engine.
The following items have been mentioned from owners.
- The engine is low on power: Approximately 135 - 140 HP is about all to expect. Keep in mind that today's 4 cylinder engines easily make that power or more.
- The engine requires frequent oil changes, meaning every 3000 miles at the Maximum. The the oil passages are narrow at some parts which may lead to engine sludge.
- The engine is known to have the seals leak which cause the coolant to mix with the oil thus destroying the engine. Check the oil quality and consistency often.
- I remember growing up my dad used to feed the radiator little pellets to help strengthen the seals in the caddy. If the engine has been religiously been maintained and fed the pellets, it should last longer.
-Lastly, replacement parts and engine components may be hard to find. Finding a suitable replacement may be a little expensive.
