I believe that what you are describing is an adapter type of lens made for cameras which don't have interchangeable lenses. It would attach to the front of your existing lens to make the angle of view wider. I had something similar for an Olympus E20N to do close-ups. I also had a telephoto converter for a Canon SureShot. Both cameras came with a permanent non-removable lens. And the converter attached to the front, like eye glasses. On other cameras, where you can remove the lens entirely, you simply put on a wide lens and you are not converting.

The focus is adjusted on the lens, not on the camera body itself.

For a lens which has autofocus (almost all modern lenses) there will be a small slider switch on the lens, close to the body of the camera, which is marked 'AF' and 'M'.

This stands for AutoFocus and Manual. Switch this to 'M' and you can adjust the focus by turning one of the rings on the lens.

The Canon EF 17-40mm lens is a wide-angle lens made by Canon Inc. for their EF-mount DSLR cameras. It is sealed against water and dust, and features a diaphragm.

The Rebel G uses standard 35mm film. I don't know what part of the world you're in, but here in the USA 35mm film is available at any camera store, as well as many supermarkets and drugstores. Of course, camera stores will have a better selection, other stores are limited to color print film.

I usually buy my color print film at a local supermarket, where it's about $1 per roll of 24 exposures.

When you buy Canon camera parts off of the Internet, you should then take them to a local dealer to have them installed. This can be highly technical. You do not want to damage or destroy your camera by trying to do the work on your own. The dealer will be happy to do the work even though you did not buy the parts from him. After all, he still gets paid for his time.
