This depends on the size of the parrot. Large parrots such as sulphur-crested cockatoos are equally happy with sunflower seeds and corn, while smaller birds such as budgies prefer millet. Parrots will essentially eat all seeds: sorghum, barley, milo, etc as well as native grass seeds and the nuts of native trees such as gums and melaleucas.

Bald parrots eat many things but the most commonly digested would be earthworms or just normal bait worms. My bald parrot also liked fruit except for kiwi, apple, and tomato.

Pigeons are grain eaters. Rice, white or brown, split peas, barley, buckwheat, canary seed, etc., are all good first options to feed a lost bird with. They also need grit because they have no teeth.

African greys are usually very sensitive Parrots to any changes my African grey is very tame i can handle him almost as i want on my shoulder touch him under his wings BUT there have been times where i was removing his poop off and he was standing by me he got scared and wanted to bite me while i was cleaning. Well, I'm guessing the bird is either bored, is sick, or some other reason. It may be reacting to stress. Has anything major happened around the house lately? Or maybe the bird is allergic to something. Have you started feeding your bird something new? Or it could be bored. Try adding a new toy to the cage. Remember, you should have 5 toys or so on hand and rotate a toy every week or so. After not seeing the bird for about five weeks for the time it's been in rotation or whatever, the toy seems like new to the bird.
The bird may be sick, have mites or a skin irritation. But anyways, I think you should take your bird to the vet no matter what. The vet might recommend a bird behaviorist. Keep trying different things till' he/she stops. Or the bird may never stop and become a plucker for the rest of his/her life. In that case, enjoy your feather plucker and don't sell her just because she doesn't have feathers.

Parakeets do not kiss. what you're thinking of is probably regurgitating. parakeets feed each other sometimes by regurgitating. they will turn their heads sideways and put their beaks together and one or them will regurgitate food into the others mouth.

Have it's wings clipped. The first time, I would have someone who knows how do it. On the ends of the wings, depending on the species, you cut off between 1/4 to 1/3 of the feathers about 1/3 to 1/2 of the feather from the tip of the feather to the base. This lessons the amount of lift the bird can create and the best they can do is a controlled crash. The feathers will grow back and have to be clipped again in 4-6 months. If you cut too much off, you can get into the blood supply which is very serious in a bird. That is why you should have someone who know how do it. Also, the bird can resent it and that way it isn't mad at you.

Loads. But most are inexpensive. For starters, a cage. If there's only one parakeet, then a fairly small one. Some perches toward the top for (s)he to play on, maybe a swing, toys, etc. dry seeds you can buy at a pet store, and get a water bottle, leave it out for a night, and use THAT water to feed your keet. Make sure you put the seeds and water in open bowls that you buy, not closed. Rather than eat out of not open bowls, like dispensers or something, keets have been know to starve themselves. There are other, some optional, nutritious things you may add, that you should ask someone at a petstore at.

You might think they are asleep all the time but they are not. They are nocturnal which means they sleep in the day and are awake at night. Rarely you should see them awake in the day time.

Okay so you said a "mother" parakeet, well if you don't know when it comes to animals and their children you don't mess around with them. The parents are very protective of their children. Maybe that other bird went near the other birds babies and the mother got mad. Or maybe they got into a fight. But she's been caged with her for years? Hmm this is puzzling. Well im like really sure about the whole baby reason. Wait by any chance did you have a male bird??? If so maybe they were fighting over that mate? Or over extra space in the cage??? Sorry for your loss Sincerely. echub The only recorded instances of parakeets fighting is in captivity. It is very rare, and always it is among females. There are two reasons they fight. They would fight over a mate, or fight over nest space. Fighting over nest space is the most common, but is still rare. You need twice as many identical nests as you have female parakeets. That means if you have two parakeets you need 4 identical nests. You can remove the extra nests only after each female parakeet has chosen her own nest, and really you should leave an extra nest or all the extra nests as a precaution. Also you cannot house two female parakeets and one male. That doesn't work. You need to house a male and a female, or two males, or even three males and one female. If you need to house two females together, you must make sure there are more males than females. That means if there are two females you need three males. =End New Answer= A mother parakeet would do that because she would probably want to protect her babies. Try buying a male. Most seed eating birds require grit of some form in their diet. It is used in their gizzard to grind against the seeds to break them down. If no other grit is available to your bird she is using the sand from the sand paper for the same purpose. Female birds alo need a source of Calcium in order to make shells for their eggs. Cuttlefish bone is commonly hung up in the cage for this purpose.
