The vet said to give him one 5mg prednisone a day. Because he wasn't drinking anything. And was dehydrated. He is now after 3 days drinking 18 to 20 oz a day. My husband thinks that is enough! I do not think it is enough?

My dog began drinking much more and I found out she was diabetic and had to give her insulin. Might want to ask your Vet, especially if she needs to urinate more too!

No. Ferrets are obligate carnivores and get all necessary nutrition from meat. They cannot digest fruits, vegetables, grains, carbs, sugars, and milks. Doing so may lead to disease later in life because it stresses the digestive system.

This will depend upon your definition of cruel - if you provide adequate food, water, shelter and room to express normal behaviors, some will say this is not cruel. Others will disagree.

A more practical point is keeping wild animals as pets isn't safe, for you or the animal. If you only get one rat you need to spend at least 4 hours a day with it, or ALWAYS creating a stimulating environment for it (Like creating mazes for it).. or free range your rat. You should have 2 rats though. Trust me, it's easier to take care of two instead of just one. They will keep each other entertained, and they even take care of each other when they get ill. Rats are very sociable and affectionate animals. If you have only one, you should give it a lot of attention.

Go to a vet first. If it's disease is painful to the point of euthanization, then a vet might have a shot or gas for your hamster. But euthanization is the LAST CHOICE. If you don't need to, don't. I can't stress that enough.

Rats will eat almost anything. It is best to feed them grains.

Put a male white mouse in a cage with a female white mouse... they'll take care of everything from that point.
The female needs a good sized clean cage, by herself, with plenty of nesting material, food and water.
