A bump on your rat's foot can mean lots of things. Do you have your rat on wire flooring? If you do, your rat may have bumblefoot, a serious disease which has no cure. If not, wait and see what happens. If you have waited about a week, and if the paw: (a) is getting worse, or (b) nothing is happening, but it's not getting better, or, if you've already waited awhile, then don't hesitate to take your rat to the vet. It could also be an abcess, which will also reguire veterinary attention.

There are varieties of mice - Texel, Longcoat, Standard, Gremlin, Angora, Abssinnian (sp?) & so forth. Some have different names depending on your area.

There are also colour varieties - do a google search on mice colour varieties, & you should get some helpful sites.

Well, I don't think that the mother or father mouse would eat the baby. It's just like how humans don't eat their babies. Just to be cautious, put the father in another cage till the babies are grown.

Yes they can!! but only grass mice, they will eat there pups if any new scent is on them.

Normally mice do not squeak. Normal mouse communication is far too high pitched for the human ear to hear. Mice do squeak when they're ill with respiratory infections. Sometimes they will squeak audibly for the rest of their lives.

Baby mice will also squeak audibly if they are nursing from their mothers, scared, or hurt.

In order to sex a mouse while it is still younge you will need to be able to touch them and handle them with the mother approving. in order to sex a female mouse there is a small space between the anus and urinary opening. There are also visible nipples on a female mouse or rat. however in order to sex a male mouse you would see the anus is far apart from the urinary opening. Yes. Rats can chew through metal such as a metal lining not too thin or even copper wires. There are many occurances where rats have been found dead where they will chew into a hot wire and electrocute themselves. Steel plating is a metal that they may not be able to chew through.

Yes. It is best to keep them in the same gender unless you want breeding. Gerbils are very social creatures, unlike hampsters. The most common set of pet gerbils is 2 of the same gender.

There are 3 things you want to look for when buying gerbils as pets for them to get along:

-Be the same gender

-Get them from the same litter(not required, but if you don't do this, do option 3)

-Being with each other since birth

You feed pinkies when he/she is awake squirming around your tank. it is very easy to know i am raising 2 pinkies that i saved from being snake's food and i learned a book. and also if you are wanting to know what time to feed it here is the formula. It depends on the age how much you give it. If it is about a couple days old you wold have to feed it every 1~2 hours and like about 1~2cc of kitten or puppy milk (you ca buy this at the pet shop). when it becomes about a week old you can start feeding it every 3~4 hours 3~4cc.then when its 3 weeks old you want to give it a little food and milk. the food is a unsalted cracker soaked in kitten or puppy milk and give it to he/she. then after 2 weeks you can start giving he/she regular food and you don't need milk anymore.

The gestation period of mice is roughly 3 weeks. Unless she is having a very small litter, she will get pretty round around her belly during the late pregnancy. When her stomach starts to get bulky, be extra careful when handling her. Too rough handling, even by mistake, can hurt or kill the babies inside of her.

yes because once i left for vacation for a whole week and when i came back it still remembers me. maybe at first they don't recognize you but later they will slowly remember you if you treat them the same way you do before. this will probably take 1 hour to 1 day depending on your guinea pig [ my guinea has a super good memory] it took my guinea pig 10 minutes to remember me.

If it is a wild rat (as in, a child found it behind a dumpster) DO NOT try to bring it home. Pet rats are also called "fancy rats" and are the domesticated version of rats. However, if it is a pet rat, and he/she is not very social, merely place your hand in the cage, and allow him to sniff and paw at it. If he poo's, that is okay, those are "fear poo's" as you are much bigger and scarier than he is. Be aware that rats can jump around one foot into the air, so don't think he cant escape from any lidless enclosure. You must not be afraid of the rat, or else it won't want to be near you, and you won't want it anymore.
