Does the ihsa count cheerleading as a sport?

oh my god yes! we do conditioning and we compete and we are in it to win it just like any other sport. not everyone can cheer--it requires skill and work. and did you know that a cheerleader is more likely to be paralized while falling out of a stunt than a football player is. the only way that there was as much force exerted on a human is when a pro-wrestler slams someone to the ground. its crazy stuff. i dare anyone who thinks it is not a sport to just TRY the CONDITIONING that we do--jumps, splits, tumbling, push ups, crunches, supermans, hollowbodies, hollowbody pikes, lifting weights, lifting people, ect, ect, ect--and if they can get through all of that and not break a sweat or complain because 'it hurts' then, sure...i guess it wouldn't be considered a sport.

Usually nothing, it all depends on the school you go to. Some bigger universities such as Kentucky and Texas give their cheerleaders full rides for cheerleading. Smaller schools only give partial scholarships, and some don't even have that luxury. The schools dont actually "pay" you personally. They do it in form of a scholarship.
