Is cystic fibrosis an infectious disease?
Good Question. The answer is cystic fibrosis is not contagious, however, people with cystic fibrosis tend to carry bacterial infections that can cause serious issues to other people with CF, so infection control procedures should be used when two or more cystics are around each other. General population folks need not fear of getting cystic fibrosis from others - it's a hereditary disease.

It also occurs in places with lots of crowding as it can easily spread this way. So main countries it occurs in are India, Latin America etc.
How many people died of cholera in 1832?
The total number of people who died in the 1854 London cholera epidemic is 616. See related link for an excerpt from a book on the subject:
This site also contains links to some really cool period maps, as well as to a firsthand account of the epidemic written by Dr. John Snow, the doctor who discovered the cause of the outbreak and treated many people affected by it.
Cholera was transmitted by a sort of water fountain that children, and adults drank from and transmitted to others. ---- Cholera is a food- or water-borne infection transmitted by the fecal-oral route. It is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. This is a flagellated, very motile bacterium that has an exotoxin that causes massive amounts of water to be excreted into the lumen of the bowel, causing large volumes of watery diarrhea. This can cause rapid dehydration and death, if not treated appropriately.

How long are you protected from the cholera vaccine?
There's not a vaccine for cholera. People ususally just let it run it's course, the only way you die from this bacterial infection is from dehydration-you loose like 5 gallons of water a day from diarrhea. You can take antibiotics, but I hear it doesn't help that much.-Jess
"Characteristics" refer to the distinguishing traits, qualities, or features that define an individual, group, or object. These attributes can include physical traits, personality traits, behaviors, and even cultural or contextual factors. In essence, characteristics help to differentiate one entity from another and can be both inherent and developed over time.
Cholera is a disease that is spread by contaminated water, particulary, by water that is contaminated by human sewage. If water is properly treated, it will not spread cholera and the disease will be prevented.
In countries with good medical services, it's quite easy to prevent, or if it does break out, to deal with cholera. In Zimbabwe, which has ceased operating as a rational country, it is impossible to prevent cholera and very hard to stop it, since medical services have broken down, and only the charity of other peoples is available to combat it.
These instructions are generally used for the prevention of cholera and hope that it will be useful for you:
A)Stay away from raw or undercooked fish or seafood. Be sure to eat and drink from hotels and restaurants, being careful to avoid street vendors.
B)Drink only water that you know is boiled, chlorine or iodine treated. Tea and coffee must contain this same treated water. Soft drinks and other carbonated bottled drinks are okay as long as you avoid ice.
C)Eat foods and vegetables, which are cooked thoroughly and still hot. Eat only fruit you peeled yourself. Avoid raw, uncooked salads and any food that's been washed with untreated water.
D)Bring no food possibly contaminated back into the United States, including perishable seafood or raw fruit or vegetables.
What are some important facts about cholera?
Cholera is caused by becoming infected with a bacterium called vibrio cholera. It's a disease that affects the bowels and in its most severe form is characterized by acute watery diarrhoea that can lead to immediate death through severe dehydration and kidney failure.
Almost 12,000 people have contracted cholera since August in Zimbabwe, and the outbreak threatens to kill even greater numbers as the water situation becomes more desperate.
Unlike other diarrhoeal diseases, cholera can also kill a healthy adult within hours.
hope it helped..

What did factory workers get paid in the 1800s?
Rich families earnt several thousand pounds a week
and poor families probably earnt 15 shillings (75p) a week

Yes, Cholera will spread fast if many people have eaten or drank the contaminated food or water. Cholera isn't spread by casual contact from one person to another.
How would you cure cholera in the 1840's?
Most likely it'd be from drinking infected water. Because there were no laws on housing back then, builders didn't build loos in houses to save money. Every one on a street shared a pit for a toilet, which often over flowed into the river. The sewage was a breeding ground for e.coli. People drank the dirty river water as they were poor. Aswell, people lived in very poor conditions (again due to lack of laws on building). So you'd be on a cold, concrete floor, in the dark, no light, little clean air, dirt and rats around you, no furniture and no food if you were infected (why waste food on the dying?) when you had caught cholera.
So to sum it up, e.coli bread in sewage, that over flowed into the river which people drank.
