Did Felix Mendelssohn have any pets?
I'm sorry. J.S. Bach did not have any pets. Well nobody knew of it anyway.
Mendelssohn was a proponent of the music of J.S. Bach, and conducted a revival of Bach's St. Matthew Passion that did a lot to renew interest in Bach, the Baroque, and earlier music. He was also somewhat influenced by Handel, as seen in his oratorios Elijah and Paul.
Unlike many of his Romantic contemporaries, Mendelssohn doesn't seem to me to have been trying to live up to Beethoven. His music sounds more like a logical progression of the ideas of Haydn (in his symphonies) and Mozart (in his chamber music). His attention to the solo song and character-pieces for piano, though, seem to show the influence of Schubert, who gave these genres greater attention than the previous generations.

When did sergei prokofiev start to write music?
Shostakovich grew up in a musical family in which both his parents and his older sister made music at home. He began to take piano lessons in 1915 (age 9) and quickly blossomed as a superb pianist. He began composing (informally) within a few months. A few small pieces from the next year or so survive in friends' albums, but he destroyed most of them.
He entered the St. Petersburg Conservatory in 1919 (age 13) and started formal study of music. The same year he composed his official Opus 1, a Scherzo for orchestra. There is at least one recording of pieces that Shostakovich composed in his early teens, and it reveals that he already had a substantial control of musical ideas and structure.

How did Beethoven play the piano if he was deaf?
Ludwig Van Beethoven made music when he was deaf by feeling vibrations and hearing the music in his head. He didn't become deaf until later in his life, so he had music theory well established in his mind and 'ear' well before that happened. If he had been totally deaf from birth, he would never have been able to write music, or to have a career as a pianist/musician.

How did Ludwig Van Beethoven die?
Some scholars claim Beethoven's death was due, in part, to lead poisoning. Beethoven died at age 56.
Tests have recently confirmed that Beethoven died as a result of lead poisoning. This was attested to by the fact that he suffered from stomach ailments for much of his life, another sign of lead poisoning.
It is not known what caused Beethoven's exposure to lead poisoning for so much of his life. There is speculation that, because he was a fairly heavy drinker, he perhaps drank from lead cups. Another alternative is that, because he had consulted so many doctors for his various ailments, lead exposure may have come from the many medical treatments he received which, in his time, were often laced with heavy metals. See the Web Link below regarding these tests.
Controversy continues to rage, with ideas being that he died from the complications of a chill, kidney failure, and lead poisoning. The latter theory is receiving much attention with new testing procedures possible on Beethoven's hair. An autopsy was performed, and if you're of medical bent or have a strong stomach, check the Web Link below.
