Some species of crabs will eat minnows. Minnows are small saltwater and freshwater fish that other marine animals may eat also.
How long does it take for a crab to die when put in boiling water?
About 10-15 seconds until their tiny brains stop functioning due to being cooked. If the water is NOT boiling, which most 'researchers' cite their info from, it could possibly take 35-45 seconds.
When the hermit crab is first hatched, it goes through many stages. First it is hatched from it's egg, then it comes out as small phytoplankton. They go through many molts(shed their exoskeleton)and soon look like a hermit crab. When they are in the sea, breathing water, they are called zoea.
Why do crabs have so many legs?
Crabs live on the bottom of the ocean where it is nothing but sand and deep mud.
Pointed legs allow it to move across the bottom easier, if you have ever stepped in mud you will know it is harder to pull your foot out of it than to put it in, that is because having a foot at the bottom of your leg causes suction and resistence when trying to pull it out, point your toe down and it becomes easier.
Pointed leg means not getting stuck in the mud as much.
Do Crab Spiders Eat Other Spiders?
An adult coconut crab has few predators, humans are responsible for killing the majority (either indirectly through habitat destruction or directly for food). Juvenile crabs are preyed on by gulls and other bird, sometimes other coconut crabs, rats, monkeys, lizards and pigs.

Dead fish. Crabs tend to be detritus eaters, so if it's a chunk of something organic, they will try to eat it. As for a living fish, if the crab can catch the fish, the crab will try to eat the fish.
How do you know if your hermit crab is a male or female?
Female hermit crabs have gonopores on their second set of walking legs, whereas male hermit crabs do not have gonopores at all. You can see pictures to illustrate this by clicking on the related link, below.
You may be able to see whether your hermit crab has gonopores during or after it's weekly bath. You could also try to see by gently placing the crab inside a clear glass bowl and, as the crab tries to climb the slippery surface, you may be able to view the second pair of walking legs.
However, many hermit crabs are reluctant to come far enough out of their shells for you to tell whether they have gonopores or not. Some may never let you see. You should not try holding the crab above a table and making it reach out as your crab can easily hurt itself by doing this.
You must be very patient and must never try to force them to come out of their shell. Pulling on the crab can seriously harm, or even kill, the crab because it will hold so tightly to the shell to try and protect itself that you could tear it apart.

How do you eat hard shell crabs?
After cooking the crab in boiling water you take a rock or pliers and break the shell. You then use a small fork or a long thin utensil (a knife would work too) and pick out the meat in the legs of the crab. If you want to dip the flesh in melted butter that is good too.
Do hermit crabs hide in their shell when they are scared?
yes they do. is you frighten or scar a hermit crab then they will hide in their shell until they sense its safe to come out again. you can get your hermit crab to come out if you blow on it. they like warm air so that makes them usually come out. then you can let it crawl on your hand. if you have pet hermit crabs then you can spray them with special hermit crab spray on their claws. you can get some from a pet store that sells hermit crab stuff. its like a conditioner for them and they love to be sprayed with it. it helps their claws feel better. and also, the need salt water in a little bowl that is easy to climb up. and tap water too. one salt water and one tap water. (cold) you can get the salt from pet stores as well. change the waters every few days. they like to swim in it and drink it. im not exactly sure what food they need. they also need spare shells in the tank or wherever you keep them so they can move home when the get to big for their current shell. (make sure its a slightly bigger one!) they also like a thick layer of sand on the bottom so they can bury themselves in the sand if they like. handle your little hermies often so they get used to you. they also definantly need a heat pad stuck under the bottom of the tank for warmth. they need warmth. good luck1!!
Does a crab have an external or external skeleton?
A crab has an external hard shell, and is an invertebrate.
Would a barnacle's DNA be more similar to the DNA of a crab or that of a limpet Explain?
Barnacles are crustaceans, and therefore more closely related to crabs than to mollusks like limpets. The apparent similar morphology of barnacles and limpets is a result of convergent evolution. It does not necessarily require DNA (i.e., similar genotype) in order to produce similar phenotype (physical characteristics).
Rock pool crabs eat the same nutrients as other crabs. This includes algae, dead animals, snail, worms, turtles, and fungi.
Ocean crabs are a member of the crustacean family. Crustaceans have hard outer shells, or exoskeletons, and have one pair of pincher-like claws. The crab is closely related to the lobster and shrimp.

Where to catch blue crabs in RI?
disclamer: this answer is assuming you are a non commercial fisherman catching from shore or boat with a dip net, trot line or landing net ( NO TRAPS PERMITTED EITHER STATE). There is no season for RI its always open you wont find them anytime other than end of June to end of aug but there is in MA closed 1/1 to 4/30 and alot of the prime crabbing grounds intersect so if you are onshore pay attn to what state you are in RI is 5" tip to tip and you must be or have a RI resident that is able to catch crab (in other words babysitting your friends kid who is from RI wont cut it)
in MA no resident requirement 4 1/8 tip to tip 50 crab per day same rules in the disclamer apply good luck and happy crabbing sry my spots a secret!!

Is ghost crabs an endangered species?
No. The various species of ghost crabs, found in tidal zones, are not endangered, but are quite common.
Since crawfish has such a heavy, distinct taste to it, you'll probably want to go with something a bit on the lighter side, like a sparkling white wine. It'll gently add to the taste of the dish without mixing two heavy flavors into the palette. Check out Vinho Verde from Twin Vines (http://www.jmftwinvines.com/about-twin-vines-wine.html) that's my favorite kind of white wine.
There are different rumours about this, however, crabs are said to be omeosmotic euryhaline (can tolerate wide ranges of salinity by maintaining constant the body fluids concentration), but quite different waters will surely shock and kill them. This really depends on the crab species in question, and also what you mean by ocean water. First, if you mean full strength sea water, most crabs can tolerate less saline water, and even adjust to changes in salinity. But as a rule of thumb, you need to consider the natural habitat from which the crab originated. If it came out of the ocean, it should stay in full strength sea water. If it came out of an estuary, it can tolerate less salt, and probably changes in salinity also, particularly if the estuary experiences periodic changes in tidal height. But extreme changes in salinity, especially if they are sudden, are likely to shock and kill a crab, as the previous commenter noted.
