I believe she just "faded away" after she lost the baby, possibly because she didn't feel she got enough of a response from Jack (my read)..that coupled with his lack of attention during the appartment hunting saddened her. Just my take on her disappearance.

No, it was not based on a book but now there is a book that came out named angel of vengeance by Trevor O Munson. He was the co-producer of Moonlight. hope this helps
