According to the Vet this is a congenital birth defect, in my dogs case it is severe. I do have a picture of it , but do not see an area that allows uploads of pics. Shortened lower jaw > ( greater than) 1 cm. Lower incisores and canines are poking into the hard palate, and will need to be extracted. However this can not be done until the animal is 7 months old, that is when they have there adult teeth. On some rare occassions the lower jaw may widen just enough for the teeth to be enclosed on the outer part of the gums. At times when eating the dog may act as if it is choking, but not making the sound, they keep shaking there head to dislodge the food, this is because the jaw can not close enough for them to properly chew and they more or less try to swallow their food whole. I have actually heard him yelp while trying to eat some things, You can see where the teeth are making a little hole in the gum. But at this stage 15 weeks old there teeth are called " milk teeth" not very hard or strong. Like any challenged person, this dog will over come the obsticle in time, but for now I mix his food sometimes with some soft can food, I still give him chew toys and treats which I break up for him. I feel the more chewing he does on rawhides, maybe this will help to wear the little pointy teeth some for now till the big and I mean expensive "Dental Day ". This animal can not be bred, and must be neutered or spayed to prevent this inherited gene from passing to puppies. With each puppy generation the defect will become more severe and it ruins the breed. Will try to put a picture under message board

It really depends. If you find your dog likes dog company. Then when you get a dog, get one whose personality seems to be the same to the dog your dog like to be with.

Originally bred to hunt badgers, they would chaise them down the hole and nip at the back of them (they cant turn around in there holes) until they came out (gota wonder how many were lost i imagine a lot).

Now there job is to be your pal, and be irritatingly cute lil dogs who love covers and all follow this rules "they know their mind but they dont always mind you".

There is really no such "ENEMIES" for the dachshund, without the exception of its prey. The animals that they prey on are any type of small rodents or any kind of rodent at all.

The sound and scent are frightening to him. Dachshunds are known to be nervous little dogs and different things affect them in different ways. One of my dachshunds has an absolute fit if I bring out the broom and try to sweep the floor in front of her. She shakes and barks and tries to bite the broom. The other two dogs don't even look up from their naps for the broom. If it really bothers your dog to witness the spraying, try to do it when he is is outside or otherwise engaged in something that will distract him.

I purchased a miniature long haired silver dapple Dachshund from an accreditted breeder recently (at 8 weeks old), last weekend in North Lincolnshire; he cost £750.00. Fair enough, we thought, as the going rate for the cost of the puppy breed we were seeking............but...............the cost of everything else we needed (or didn't need but HAD to have), such as umpteen plastic bones, chews, cage, bedding, the finest food on the market, season ticket to all the pet shops in North London and a three-hour home visit from a prominant Dog Behavioural Expert (at £130.00)................has just about doubled the cost of the Little Doggy !

It depends how far along you are, but in very early pregnancy, it would be just like a period only it could be thicker or have chunks in it, and you usually would have more cramping.
