Does creatine cause hair loss?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No one really knows for sure, but one study noted an increased DHT level and DHT:testosterone ratio in men taking creatine. Testosterone is converted to DHT by 5alpha-reductase, and high DHT levels and DHT:testosterone ratio have been associated with male pattern balding. Propecia, which is used for male pattern balding, is a 5alpha-reductase inhibitor which is supposed to prevent further balding by decreasing conversion of testosterone to DHT.

This effect is probably only likely to occur in people who are genetically susceptible to male pattern baldness however.

How do you treat cat dandruff?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Dander or dandruff is typically dried flaking skin cells that are visible on the cat's hair; dark-furred cats are more likely to show this than light-furred cats because the light colored dander stands out against the dark fur.

Your veterinarian can help you figure out what is causing the dander, but in general shampooing your cat will only make it worse by drying the skin out further and creating more dander. However, if the dander isn't severe, you can try gently combing out your cat's fur and wiping the existing dander off with a clean cloth.

Why does your horse look like it has dandruff?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The main cause for a horse apprearing to have dandruff is that... it does. Horses can have dandruff just like people. However, if this dandruff appears excessive and you notice the horse to be shedding more than usual or losing fur altogether, your horse may have rein rot. If this is the case, keep him away from your other horses, as rein rot is a fungus and is contageous. Also, don't use any of the brushes, blankets, saddles, etc. from this horse on others until they have been THOROUGHLY cleaned and disinfected. As for your horse himself, you'll need to bathe him every other day using a mixture of horse-safe shampoo and iodine...yes iodine... This will kill the infection. There is a product on the market for rein rot called "Viodine." However it will have the same effect as mixing a GENEROUS portion of iodine and horse-safe shampoo. ( I suggest main and tail, which can be purchased at your local Kroger.) Remember to keep the soapy mixture away from your horse's eyes, nose and ears. You need to scrub him WELL. (Trust me, it will feel good to him/her) If the problem persists, see your local vet. Good luck and happy trails!

That's a good answer...but it's rain rot, not "rein rot".

Does Vaseline kill head lice?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No. Go to your pharmacy and get a suitable treatment. And don't be embarrassed.

According to my kids pediatrician, Vaseline is a non-pesticide treatment for head lice. If you coat your whole scalp in Vaseline at night before you go to bed they will be dead in the morning. They recommended wearing a shower cap to bed and using concentrated dish detergent to get the Vaseline out the next morning. It does not kill the eggs which can take up to 10 days to hatch so unless you remove them all, you will have to retreat. Lice do not lay eggs for the first 10 days of their lives so as long as you retreat every few days for up to 10 days you should be able to successfully radicate the head lice. I tried it, and although it took me much longer than 10 days to get all of the Vaseline out of my kids hair, it worked wonders!!!

Yes it can work. I strongly recommend using a different method. We had used this and it took A dozen washes to get it all out.

What could cause a out break of dandruff in the scalp?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A dry scalp, use shampoo & conditioner that moisturize the scalp, head & shoulders & other dandruff shampoo just dry out your scalp making it even more flakier. I use tresemme shampoo * conditioner and they work very good. Also, the exact cause of dandruff is not pin-pointed, but genetics has a large role in it. Poor hygiene does not have a role, contrary to a common misconception. People who comb or brush their hair less often do not shed their scalp of dead skin therefore causing a dandruff buildup. Dry skin and stress are also factors.

Dandruff is an hair problem which is known to be caused by a fungal infection. Dead skin cells accumulate to form thick white scales, on the scalp and shed randomly. Itchy and dry, the scaly dead skin is unsightly and embarrassing. Apart from using harsh chemical based shampoos, you can try using some effective natural remedies that work better and give you freedom for constant itching and scaling. Natural products give best results and cause no damage the hair cuticles. Dandruff is aggravated by exposure to sun, using chemical treatments on the hair and excessive dryness. If you can manage to keep your hair clean and nourished, dandruff can be eliminated. There are many basic remedies that you can take to keep your hair dandruff free. A warm coconut oil head massage can do wonders. Apart from making your hair lustrous and shiny, the optimized oil levels keep the scalp nourished while the vigorous massage aids better blood circulation, exfoliates the scalp of dead skin build up. A teaspoon of fresh lime juice in the last hair rinse combined with a light weight conditioner can also be effective to treat dandruff. Furthermore, this adds much needed luster to the hair as well. In addition, an individual needs to keep off from strong teas or coffee, pickles, as well as refined and processed foods.

Normally, people do not ever eat their own dandruff. That falls into the category of picking scabs, picking your nose and eating the snot, and other inappropriate behaviors most kids do between ages 2 and 6. Keep a tissue in your hand, and make sure body items go in the Kleenex, then throw it away. It isn't healthy to eat dead skin.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Alcohol is used to kill the fungus on hair stylers such as straighteners or curling irons but it is not used on the scalp. You should use something specifically formulated to get rid of dandruff such as a shampoo (Head & Shoulders) but if that doesn't work see your doctor and they can prescribe a more suitable one.

Why has your rabbit got dandruff?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

== == My rabbit has this as well and I am bringing her to the vet. This can be fur mites or "mange" and both can be effectively treated. Bring your bunny to the vet. Go to a vet who specializes in exotic pets because most vets know NOTHING about rabbits and rabbits are very sensitive and somewhat hard to treat. The only way to treat this is to find the root cause of the skin problem.

Firstly eliminate any bathing, cleaning etc of your bunny. Simple brushing is fine.

Try using different cleaning fluids and litter in the cage and litter tray.

This could be a sign of mites (surprisingly easy for a bunny to catch from hay and the like) so a trip to the vet for an ivermectin shot would definitely be a must!

Always remember, rabbits are intelligent, social animals... if they are sick they need to see a vet, just as we would need to see a doctor.
