What are the united nations doing about the killing in Darfur?

The United Nations and the "White" world have not yet gotten involved in the raging genocide in Darfur for two reasons onebecause the Americans are in coalition with the Sudan government and two their is nothing in it for the rest of the world to get out of getting involved in the whole mess. " money is the rot of all evil" and this is a perfect example since their is no way to make a profit then the United Nations will never get involved. it's sad but it's the truth and until the world decides toGrow a setand stop looking out for number one then I feel that we will see many more slaughtering of millions of innocent people before the "White" world gets involved.

Why is the genocide going on in darfur?

From everything I can understand - the Muslim Arab Sudanese of the North are trying to rid Sudan of (or take-over and convert by force) all the Southern African Sudanese - many of whom are Christian (Catholic and other) or animist.

What groups are involved in the Darfur conflict?

The region became the scene of a rebellion in 2003 against the Arab-dominated Sudanese government, with two local rebel groups - the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the Sudanese Liberation Army (SLA) - accusing the government of oppressing non-Arabs in favor of Arabs.

The government was also accused of neglecting the Darfur region of Sudan.

In response, the government mounted a campaign of aerial bombardment supporting ground attacks by an Arab militia, the Janjaweed.

The government-supported Janjaweed were accused of committing major human rights violations, including mass killing, looting, and systematic rape of the non-Arab population of Darfur. They have frequently burned down whole villages, driving the surviving inhabitants to flee to refugee camps, mainly in Darfur and Chad; many of the camps in Darfur are surrounded by Janjaweed forces.

By the summer of 2004, 50,000 to 80,000 people had been killed and at least a million had been driven from their homes, causing a major humanitarian crisis in the region.

How many people live in Darfur Sudan?

When the conflict in Darfur began, a serious drought had just ended that had killed about 95,000 people. Things were still at a climax, and tensions were high, and in 2003 (i think) rebel groups began attacking government outposts to voice their aggrivation since they weren't being represented in the government and getting food.

Since these people were non-Arab, the government answered their attacks and complaints by killing them. Arabs had no reason to complain because they were being represented and fed, and the government used the non-Arab's attacks as excuses to kill them, calling their complaints, lies.

It's been 3 years since the Darfur genocide has begun and already 400,000 innocent people have been killed. Usually the meathod used it simply either killing everyone in the village and leaving their bodies rotting in a ditch, or they kill the men and rape the women because if a woman is not pure she cannot marry, therefore dooming her to die from poverty and starvation.

The attacks ARE government sponsored, but so far they are doing a good job of covering it up and threatening anyone who tries to intercede. If you have any more questions about this matter you can email me at:

Why are the Muslims killing the Christians in Darfur?

Answer Islam is frequently referred to as a religion of peace. In this connection the often cited sura from the Koran refers to their being 'no compulsion in religion'. Other suras in the Koran speak about both Jews and Christians as 'people of the book' (the Bible) and affirm their scriptures. On the other hand, there are many Muslims who recognise some (if not all) of the 109 Koranic verses which are referred to as 'war verses'. These are said to abrogate (supersede) the verses which indicate peace and respect towards Christians.

To directly answer to the question though, the Muslims who kill Christians in Darfur (or anywhere else) would be getting their justification for doing so directly from the Koran itself since the Koran is their sacred book. They would believe they are following the example of Muhammed and the teachings of their Holy book. It may also to a degree (but not always) depend on whether those they are killing are Christians from a Muslim background or not. Muslims who become Christians are regarded throughout the Islamic world as apostates and are deemed worthy of death, according to Koranic teaching.

It must also be remembered that in Darfur there appeared to be a racial motivation to the violence, even to the point of attempted genocide. In at least part it is certainly possible that both motivations are present. Some of the violence has even been reported as being Muslim versus Muslim, so the situation is not altogether clear cut.

WHY was the conflict between north Sudan and southern Sudan?

The Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) and Justice and Equality Movement (Jem) began attacking government targets in early 2003, accusing Khartoum of oppressing black Africans in favour of Arabs.

How was the darfur genocide carried out?

Leaders in Darfur firstly was asking for autonomy and full control of their economy (having in mind abundance of gas and petroleum). This was not approved by Sudanese Govt. Years passed and at point Darfurians organized themselves and demanded freedom for their territory. Sudan at all not liked it. Started arresting and harrousment. Darfurians revolted, took some arms in their own hand. Then Sudanese Govt (President Umr Al Bashar), created and sponsored Janjaweed Militia. In 2003, having the support with arms and money the Janjaweed (also backed by Sudanese Army) launched attacks to kill the people indiscremenantly. This is the beginning of mass killing, diplacement of ordinary people, burning, raping..and more. This is genocide!

Where did the Darfur genocide happen and what happened?

The conflict is very complex, but the basic information is the following:

African Christians and Animists in the Darfur region of Sudan were relentlessly attacked, raped, and butchered by the Arab Janjaweed militias in a systematic way and were endorsed by the government of Sudan to engage in this behavior.

In which country is the Darfur region located?

Sudan is located in North East Africa, directly south of Egypt

Why is the genocide in Darfur occurring?

genocide

  1. The systematic killing of substantial numbers of people on the basis of ethnicity, religion, political opinion, social status, or other particularity.

  2. Acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group. - http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/genocide

The Islamic controlled government, located in East and North Sudan, started the genocide as an ethnic cleansing of the Darfur region in West Sudan. They "hire" militia groups known as the Janjaweed to attack villages, rape, kill and loot. I have hire in quotations because the government is not paying them, their reward is what they are able to steal.

The Darfurians are now being forced out of their lands and into neighboring Chad. So far, no government has intervened in a meaningful way. There have been treaties made with the government of Sudan that they are not sticking to. They assist the Janjaweed in the attacks occasionally with air support. Though they deny it, we know that it is the government assisting them, for they are the only ones who have the knowledge and experience to fly these helicopters as the air support.

There has been demands put on China, who has a strong trade system with Sudan as it does with the US, to cut its ties (along with ending its oppression of the people of Tibet) but that also does very little. If the US were to stop trades with China, the Chinese economy would collapse, forcing them to give in, but the US economy would collapse as well.

The UN can and has sent in peace keepers, but they can do very little to help because they cant fire unless being fired upon. And since it is the Darfurians and not the UN peace keepers the Sudanese government wants dead, then there is little if nothing they UN can do to help

In the end, the only solution seems to be military force, which the US can not currently provide due to its entanglements in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Note:

As with everything, especially contentious issues like what is happening in Darfur there are a number of answers, depending on whom you speak with and who offers comments.

In order to derive a proper, balanced, objective version of events I would suggest that you read or consult a number of sources rather than simply taking the first written piece that you find as the whole and complete truth. Dbxsoul

Up to 400,000 people have died due as a result of direct attacks and conflict induced malnutrition and disease. The vast majority of these have been women, children and civilian men. More than 3 million people have been displaced and are living in IDP camps. More than 350,000 people are deprived of humanitarian support due to the threat of attack faced by aid workers. Thousands starve each month due to the Sudanese government impeding humanitarian aid efforts. A further 4 million Darfuri residents are dependant on limited international humanitarian assistance. The violence is now spilling onto neighbouring Eastern Chad.

What are some differences and similarities between rwanda's genocide and Darfur Sudan's genocide?

The similarities between the Rwandan genocide and Darfur are that rebel's attack government and the government's reply is to purposely kill not only the rebels but the civilians. The World hasn't and didn't do anything really to stop it. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed, and many more removed from their homes. Both acts were some what supported by the government.

How did the United Nations' response to genocide in Rwanda compare to its response to mass killings in Darfur?

Although the UN took a more active role in recognizing the atrocities in Darfur, it had little impact in either case.
