The Islamic controlled government, located in East and North Sudan, started the genocide as an ethnic cleansing of the Darfur region in West Sudan. They "hire" militia groups known as the Janjaweed to attack villages, rape, kill and loot. I have hire in quotations because the government is not paying them, their reward is what they are able to steal.

The Darfurians are now being forced out of their lands and into neighboring Chad. So far, no government has intervened in a meaningful way. There have been treaties made with the government of Sudan that they are not sticking to. They assist the Janjaweed in the attacks occasionally with air support. Though they deny it, we know that it is the government assisting them, for they are the only ones who have the knowledge and experience to fly these helicopters as the air support.

There has been demands put on China, who has a strong trade system with Sudan as it does with the US, to cut its ties (along with ending its oppression of the people of Tibet) but that also does very little. If the US were to stop trades with China, the Chinese economy would collapse, forcing them to give in, but the US economy would collapse as well.

The UN can and has sent in peace keepers, but they can do very little to help because they cant fire unless being fired upon. And since it is the Darfurians and not the UN peace keepers the Sudanese government wants dead, then there is little if nothing they UN can do to help

In the end, the only solution seems to be military force, which the US can not currently provide due to its entanglements in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The similarities between the Rwandan genocide and Darfur are that rebel's attack government and the government's reply is to purposely kill not only the rebels but the civilians. The World hasn't and didn't do anything really to stop it. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed, and many more removed from their homes. Both acts were some what supported by the government.

Other than the basic similarities of genocide (e.g. that they are mass-killings based on the race/ethnicity/religion of the target group) the genocides in Rwanda and Darfur have a large number of similarities:

• They were primarily organized on a local level by militias than by any national committees or top-down national groups.
• The main methods of attack were primitive, using machetes, knives, cleavers, and occasionally guns. No complex system of concentration or extermination camps were used and the genocide-committers would "come to their victims" as opposed to deporting their victims to special areas in order to kill them in a more uniform method.
  
• The types of behavior, once in a village to be subjugated, were typical. First, the men would all be hacked to death, then the women would be repetitively gang-raped, and then finally all of the homes would be burnt to the ground.
  
• In both cases, the United Nations provided no real assistance to the victims of the genocide, despite numerous debates and resolutions.
  
• The genocide was eventually ended when local militias and rebel armies were able to unseat the genocide-supporting government, without any serious foreign assistance.
  

Well it all started when Omar al-Bashir came into Darfur and tried to take control of the president.Omar was a dictatorship.So of course the pepke in Darfur didnt like it so they took control in there hands and attacked back.Well Omar said im going to bring in my rebelings to attack.So it was a war going on.Once he got total control everything shated going down hill for peolple in Darfur.

A solution for this would be involving the UN having direct military involvement or assisting the countries surrounding to put down the issues in Darfur.

Before you try to be coy and send stupid remarks such as this on the internet aquire the intelligence to type something worth reading because this is a crisis. It's not funny to rip on people because they live in a poverty driven country. They can't choose who their parents are, where their born, and what surrounds them. Grow up and be mature because this is an actual serious issue surrounding the world today and although you don't care, other people do.
