What states require a person to be licensed in dentist specialty?

Seventeen states currently license dental specialties. Virginia only licenses oral and maxillofacial surgeons, therefore this state is not included in the total number of 17 states. All 17 states require the specialist to hold a general dentistry license; 13 will only accept a general dental license granted by their state. Four (4)states, Idaho, Minnesota, Nevada, and Oklahoma will accept a general dental license from any state. Applicants for licensure in these states can apply directly for a specialty license after meeting other criteria. Of the states that license dental specialties, thirteen (13) administer specialty examinations: Arkansas, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee. However, `Virginia does not examine the only specialty it licenses, OMS'. Of these states, nine (9) will accept credentials as diplomate or specialty certification from a National Specialty Board, recognized by the ADA, in lieu of specialty examination: Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee. How does all this relate to state requirements for licensure by credentials? General Licensure by Credentials - The 13 states that require their own general dental license are also licensure by credentials states and they will grant a general dental license to out-of-state applicants by a review of their credentials. Montana and Wyoming will issue a general dental license by credentials to dental specialists who have previously passed a clinical exam administered by a regional testing agency or another state Board of Dental Examiners however, Montana has an additional requirement that the applicant must have completed a 2-year accredited specialty residency or obtained a specialty degree. Iowawill accept successful completion of a national specialty examination in lieu of evidence of completion of a regional clinical exam. Neither Iowa, Montana, nor Wyoming license dental specialists. Specialty Licensure by Credentials - Of the states that license dental specialists 9 will accept a specialty license from one of the other specialty licensing states in lieu of specialty examination: Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. Do dentists get cavities?

Cats do not develop the same type of cavities that people get. Cats do get holes in their teeth, but they are generally the same color as the tooth and are the result of tooth resorption rather than decay. Most commonly seen at or below the gumline, these "cat cavities" or "neck lesions" are now termed FORLs or feline odontoclastic resorption lesions. FORLs are very painful and often lead to shearing off of the teeth at the gumline. Difficulty eating, salivation, and tooth loss are some signs of "cat cavities", but sometimes no symptoms are noted until the cat stops eating due to pain.

If your dentist touched you how should you feel?

It depends how he/she touched you. If he/she touched your mouth, teeth, head, brushed up against you in the course of his/her work then you should probably just feel that he/she was doing his/her job. Anything else is probably in your mind.

If the touch was sexual then you should probably feel angry. It may well have been a sexual assault and you should consider contacting the police.

If you aren't sure how you feel you need to talk to someone. This isn't something that can be answered in a generic question on the web. Hopefully you have someone you trust and can talk to about it. If not consider a rape victim support line, OK it wasn't rape but they can point you in the right direction.

I have dry socket and the dentist just packed it and if does feel better. What happens to that gauze . I am afraid to eat because the gauze may fall out.Does it just fall out after a few hours?

The gauze is medicated with a simple form of local anesthetic. It is packed into the socket and it will not likely come out. After a day or two it will need to be removed. If the socket is still painful, the dentist may repack it with fresh medicated gauze. It too will have to be removed after a few days. Eventually, the socket will calm down, and the gauze will not have to be replaced.

If a dental filling falls out in two months should you have to pay for it?

You should expect to pay for the filling for the first placement. If you should pay for subsequent fillings on the same tooth depends on why the filling came out. If it was due to trauma, such as getting hit in the face, then yes, you probably ought to pay for the replacement. On the other hand, if it simply broke off, it may have been that the dentist was trying to be too conservative and placed a filling where a crown was really needed. In that case, the doctor ought to credit you the fee for the filling towards the fee for the crown.

If you suspect that the dentist is simply incompetent, seek a second opinion or just find a new dentist.

What do the initials pa and ms stand for behind a dentist name?

PA = It's a legal term to describe a separate legal entity - Professional Association. It's a form of incorporating a group of professionals, such as physicians, or dentists, or attorneys, or accountants to allow the individuals protection from lawsuits. If you wanted to sue one of the members for malpractice, you'd have to sue the professional association rather than the individual.

If you have to have an upper front tooth extracted how will the dentist put in a one tooth denture?

It would be what they call a flipper, more like a retainer with a tooth. However, it's not a permanent solution. Most dentists would recommend that a patient get a dental implant in place of an upper front tooth. An implant helps to retain the bone in the area where the roots were.

Would getting an industrial piercing before getting your wisdom teeth pulled be bad?

Wouldn't be a great idea. Just wait- you'll be in enough pain as is. Also, you might be asked to remove all jewellery including piercings before surgery. In which case you might as well not worry about having had it pierced at all.

Also, you want to avoid infection anywhere in your body because infection weakens your immune system and you don't want an infection in your industrial to hinder your healing for your wisdoms.

In short, save it till you're healed. Make it a reward for getting them out :)

Is rinsing vigorously while wisdom extraction hole is not yet closed but past 10 days since extraction Please be more specific?

You should not rinse your mouth if the hole from getting your wisdom teeth pulled is not yet healed. It could wash out the blood clot and cause a dry socket.

How many days does it take to heal from having 2 wisdom teeth pulled and what kind of pain and discomfort is normal?

If done correctly, there might be some pain for a couple days ... you will be mostly confined to having soup for a few days. Stay completely away from any carbonated beverages until the sutured area completely heals ... gargle with salt water to keep all food substances out of the healing area.

Does the injection when getting a tooth pulled out for braces hurt?

Nope! You'll feel a little pinch at first when they put the needle in, then your gum around the tooth getting pulled out will be numb so they can pull it out! :)
