What happens when body rejects food through feeding tube?

Sh*ts his pant mybe.Scentist just have recently found out this happens to a lucky 1 out of a 100 people.

My sister was unfortunate enough to have this happen to her. She suffered from delayed gastric emptying -- basically her digestive system didn't move food through. She went through virtually all formulas on the market and ended up going to IV nutrition. If the question is looking for what you can do to address intolerance, here's some ideas:

If the problem is an emptying problem like hers or a malabsorption problem, they have "elemental" formulas that are already partially broken down, so it's easier for the body to digest. So, that is one option. Another option is adding things to the formula or taking medications to address whatever issues the formula is causing. So, if it's constipation for example, there's powdered fiber you can add. If the problem is an intolerance to the ingredients, there's a great formula called Compleat that contains mostly real food. Some people also actually puree and make their own tube food. Obviously, it's important to consult your doctor before trying anything new and to regularly check up on the patient's nutritional health.

If none of those options work and no formula or supplement combinations work, there is an option of IV nutrition. You can actually get full nutrition through your veins. It's not ideal and there are risks and side effects, but it can be a relief to someone who's been miserable on tube feedings.

If the question was just looking for what happens to the body when it "rejects" the formula, it's generally vomiting, diahhrea, and/or severe bloating. Other symptoms might include constipation and nausea.

Bile salts are responsible for the digestion and absorption of?

Bile is produced in the liver and helps to digest fat in the human body. Once produced, bile is stored in the gallbladder and is discharged into the duodenum when a person eats.

What is part of the gastrointestinal system but not the gastrointestinal tract?

I think you are looking for liver and pancreas, these are accessory digestive organs that produce enzymes and emulsifiers that are secreted into the digestive tract.

What makes the digestive system function?

Mostly hormones, enzymes, buffering agents, emulsifiers, and other chemical. And then also autonomic tonic and peristaltic muscle muscle activity. The special senses like sight, smell, taste, and touch also play a role in preparing the digestive system to function properly.

Where is mucus secreted in the alimentary canal?

Mucus is secreted so that peristalsis can occur and can slide easily down you throat.

How long it takes for food intake to pass through the human digestive system?

Any where from 6 hours to 3 days. Vegetarian diets are more quickly digested than carnivorous ones. You can test your own digestion time by eating something that you passes through like corn, but be sure to not have eaten that food for a few days to ensure the food coming out was the same that went in.

In which organ is most food digested and absorbed during digestion?

I will have to say the digestive system break down the most food because it contains enzymes which breaks down substrates and speed up chemical reactions and allows it to flow through your blood stream, amalyst, catalyst, enzyme pepsin, and others.

The stomach

Can Golgi bodies contain digestive enzymes?

Where does the chemical digestion of carbohydrates occur?

The mouth itself doesn't actually digest anything. Instead, salivary amylase released by the salivary glands is released into the oral cavity to break down starches.

The same is true for the intestine where pancreatic amylase from the pancreas is used to break complex sugars into small disaccharides which are ultimately broken into monosaccharides by disacharidase.

What are the accessory digestive glands?

The liver, pancreas, and salivary glands. (more added by 99silvermoon99) The three glands associated with the digestive system are the liver (secretes the bile stored in the gall bladder), the pancreas (secretes pancreatic juice, which produce enzymes that contribute to the breakdown of all categories of foodstuffs) and the salivary glands in the oral cavity (secretes saliva which: 1. cleanses the mouth, 2. dissolves food chemicals so they can be tasted, 3. moistens food and aids in compacting it into a bolus, 4. contains enzymes that begin the chemical breakdown of starchy foods.). edited by Jane_says123 on 6/3/09

What enzymes secreted from the pancreas promote digestion?

The pancreas secretes insulin which helps regulate blood glucose levels and it also secretes digestive enzymes such as glucagon that assist in breaking down fat, carbohydrate and protein.

What is the various process of food propulsion?

Food enters mouth, as it is chewed, enzymes in the saliva begins to break it down. It is swallowed

In which part of the digestive system is the digested food absorbed into the bloodstream?

Food material absorbed by the digestive tract and collected by capillaries of the blood stream are emptied into the hepatic portal vein. From there the liver removes excesses either store or are metabolized and excreted.
