There are many theories. The weather may have been too cold/hot for the dinosaurs to live. A natural disaster may have killed the dinosaurs. The most popular theory is that a meteor crashed onto the earth, sending dust up into the air, blocking the sun's rays, preventing plants to get energy, causing them to die. The dinosaurs that ate plants wouldn't be able to eat anything, and died by either starvation or just by naturally being eaten. Once the plant eaters all died out, the meat eaters wouldn't have had anything to eat, hence their death.
