Do Doberman pincher's make good house pets?

N0 . A Doberman Pinscher can see that you are inexperienced and will get into a lot of trouble. I think the best dog is a golden retriever for the first dog. but when buying one make sure the dog's parents are two good behaving dogs, and that they don't look sick or hurt from an injury.

What are the characteristics of a Doberman Pinscher?

Doberman Pinschers are great pets!! Loyal. Funny. Energetic. Lively. They are great family pets. They need lots of walking because they have everlasting energy. They are also the most intelligent breed i have ever had!! They think of them selves as humans. For example my dobe sits on the sofa like a human would and watches the television with us. she actually looks like she understands every thing.

As for training, ive never had a doberman which took over 4 weeks to house train. as I said they are incredibly intelligent and extremely easy to train. whether its tricks, commands or house training, the learn very quickly what they can and cant do.

Because doberman are so energetic and athletic, the owner needs to be some one who has plenty of time on their hands as they may need more exercise than you think. if you dont give one their desired amount of walks or runs they become hyper!! so be prepared to walk up to 5 miles a day.

Doberman are regarded as fierce dogs. in fact, they are very friendly towards the people that you are. whenever i leave the house, my doberman goes straight towards the window on guard duty, to make sure no one steps on our property. when i come back, she's still there. If some one enters the house without me letting them in, she'll bark, but if i let them in she'll sit at my feet and let them come in. if someone touches me whos not in the family, she'll growl at them, to let them know that she's protecting me. But she's fierce at all to them.

Doberman are family dogs so make sure some one is at home to give them love and attention, the more you stay with them the more loyal to you they become.

They are great with children and see them like a brother or sister although keep watch if a child is playing with a doberman.

Over all, i think doberman are great indoor pets that don't shed much fur, i love them and will continue to keep them because they really love me back

Hope i was helpful!! :)

What two dogs make a German Shepherd?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Dobermans were originally breed from German Pinschers, Rottweilers, Beauceron, Pinschers, Greyhounds, English Greayhounds
The origin of the Doberman Pincher isn't completely traceable. It is thought that dobermans are bread from German Pinchers (very smart breed), German Herd Dogs, Great Danes, and Rottweilers. Of course without knowing for sure, there can be all kinds of combinations. I have 2 dobermans now, and have had 2 others (separate times) in the past. Through my personal research, I find these breeds to be most consistently mentioned in literature about dobermans. - also the breed has changed since it's arrival to America after WWII.

The best way to buy a pedigree Dobermann Pinscher is to buy from a Kennel Club Accredited breeder (found on the Kennel Club website). You could also buy from a Dobermann rescue or dog pound. There are also many private breeders, but make sure you don't buy from a puppy farmer.

What does a Doberman pinscher eat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Try to give your Doberman Pinscher meals that would provide good health for their age and immune system. I don't know if your pinscher prefers wet or dry food, but keep a look out for foods that haven't been recalled or sent back to manufacturers due to bad ingredients or harm to animals. Some of the top leading dry foods for adult dogs are Natural Choice, Life Abundance, and Purina, while wets foods are not quite the greatest due to high increase in mold growth in the cans. If I were you, I would look especially out for dog foods that contain the labels for AAFCO (the Association of American Feed Control Officials) which will insure the formula of the dog food at least meets minimal nutritional requirements. This formula includes:

  • High in high-quality protein (muscle meat, not pieces and parts)
  • Moderate levels of animal fat
  • High levels of EPA/DHA
  • High moisture content (prey is 70 percent water)
  • A few fresh cut veggies and a bit of fruit (to mimic stomach contents of prey)
  • No grains (carnivores don't have a biologic requirement for grain)
  • No wads of potatoes or other starches to offset meat content

How much does a Doberman Pinscher cost?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The cost or value of a dog depends more on the quality of his breeding and the availability of similar dogs than it does on his breed.

A pure bred Doberman might be available for free if the breeder hasn't been able to sell him. He might be available for a nominal fee from a shelter or rescue.

Or he might cost a few thousand dollars if he is a valued show or breeding prospect with an excellent pedigree.

Can a Doberman be a police dog?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In most cases, yes. Dobermans are formidible domestic canines, and very protective of people who care for them. However, it would be a mistake to think of a Doberman as the ultimate protection. For instance, a panther can remove a Doberman's head quickly and easily, but unless you have invaded the panther's natural habitat this is not a likely threat to your safety. Dobermans can also be trained to disarm people with pistols and knives, but they are vulnerable to rifle fire and poison. No form of earthly protection is perfect, but if a guard dog is needed, a Doberman makes an excellent choice. The mere sight of their bared fangs is enough to inspire dread.

How much food does a grown Doberman need?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends on what type of food you have and how big the dog is, I would say feed them in a range of 1-2 cups, but you should also see a vet if the dog has any medical conditions because if you over or under feed a dog it may be life threatening.

Do Dalmatians or Doberman Pinschers run faster?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

25-45 mph. Yeah that is pretty fast since they are part greyhound.

That is the worst answer I have ever read, not only do you site a variable speed, but its over such a broad range its useless as fact, and its completely inaccurate, as is your justification. Dobermans are a separate breed, the "7" dogs originally bred DID NOT include greyhounds. The fastest dogs in the world are greyhounds but they can only run at 37.5 mph not even close to the cited 40 mph.well actually a greyhound can go faster than 40 mph it accelerates to 45 mph so a doberman can go 38 mph.

Dobermans were mixed with Rottweiler, GSD, German Pinscher, and Saluki ( not Greyhound but similar), Dobermans are generally not as fast as Greyhounds or Salukis (45 mph) however if trained to be a sighthound they could be as fast as 40 mph, if a guard dog as usual perhaps 34 - 38 mph.

Ok now that is the worst answer I have ever read. Saluki is a long hair breed and doesn't match into the mix. Everything I have ever read says Grayhound (not a Persian Grayhound or Saluki) also don't for get Black and Tan Terriers and also Weimaraners were breed into the Doberman.

What age do Dobermans need to be to breed?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I have a doberman, and because of its reputaion, I read lots of books and websites about it before I bought one. I found that almost all of the books and websites that I read said that doberman stop growing after round about 18 months (a year and a half). The grow really fast and within almost a year of buying my doberman, he almost doubled in size. They out grow all the beds and toys that you give them, only doggy mattreses will do them and hard rubber toys, believe me, I have to buy a new toy for my doberman almost every week, I like that! I hop ehtta was helpful, your wellcome!

What is the result Crossbreeding between Labrador and Doberman?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A Doberman-labrador cross makes a very good large dog for a pet that also makes a good indoor watch dog. They vary widely in appearance from shaded like a brown dobie to all black. We had one that lived 15 years. He was a magnificent dog, solid black, with webbed toes and an otter tail like a lab, but longer nose and legs. Very well muscled, 100 LBS at his peak of health. Loved people, but was very intimidating in appearance; would bark ferociously at stangers. Loved cats too, tended to not get along with other dogs until he got to know them.

What is a better dog a German shepherd or a boxer?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

They are so much more adoring and protective naturally. Of course that is a matter of opinion :) I have a doberman that is the most loving and loyal dog I have ever seen and she is very protective of our family without any training. They are both very smart breeds but dobermans are generally faster and more agile than a German shepherd due to their more compact frame

Can a Doberman beat a leopard in a fight?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This is sort of like asking if an American can beat up a Russian. Both are humans, just slightly different. More often than not, fights come down to the individuals, as they would with dogs. However, no one should EVER make dogs fight. You would have to be the worst type of scum.

Which is a better family dog German Shepherd Doberman Rottwieler?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

All three breeds are excellent guard & family dogs. The difference will be in your life style. Which one suits your style. Dobes & GSD are easier to train (make note). Which breed you decided make sure and buy from working lines. The working lines come with strong training in protection work & stable temparments. Finally make sure your dog receive protection training to get the fully benefit of a stable dog (a dog easy to control) & protection. Also do some research on protection training & go by a certified trainer.

How much does it cost to get a boxers tail docked and ears cropped and how old do they need to be?

User Avatar

Asked by Desireemanicaro16

Usually the breeders dock their tails when they are 3 days old as they have no nerve feelings yet. But if you have a dobie that still has a tail and ears it will cost you 500 hundred for the ears to get done and while the dog is under it should only cost you 15-30 dollars for the tail to be done.
