disconect neg battery cable. some people put the engine on top dead center, some people just mark where rotor is pointing and mark distributor.at base of dist, there is a screw holding a wedge to hold dist tight remove screw and wedge,,, remove hall effect connector (pick up coil cam sensor get dist on bench look at bottom gear you will see a pin that goes thru gear into shft these is called a roll pin. in must be removed with a dowek pin remover ive seen peolpe use a cut drill bit of correct diameter. once pin is out slide gear off shaft. if it does not move spray carb cleantr and let sit for a few minutes. enginge sludge turns to varnish and freezes gear ... if you find roll pin is sheared when you pull out dist it means you have a frozen oil pump. if gear is chipped chances are you camshaft is damaged you can look down in hole to check cam gear for damage
