Well depending on the breed of dog a cat will get along great with the dog like the movie Milo and Otis they got along great.But a fish wont really do any harm but a dog will try to EAT,NOCK OVER THE TANK.so i suggest you get a hamster and MAKE SURE ITS OUT OF REACH OF THE DOGS.

There are several aspects to consider. Physical A chained dog could get caught or twisted in the chain, or it could wrap the chain around something and thereby limit the dog's mobility. You should also consider that a chained dog may not be able to defend itself adequately or escape should another dog wander into its area. Is the area suitable for a dog? Make sure there is grass or dirt - don't chain a dog on a hard surface like a driveway or a concrete patio. The dog must have adequate shelter from environmental conditions - heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, etc. - the exact nature of the shelter depends largely on the dog breed and local climate. If you are chaining more than one dog, then this becomes complicated, because unless you use some kind of overhead cable, pulley, swiveler, and dual chains (which I have use successfully), the dogs' chains will tangle hopelessly if they are allowed to come close enough to each other. Dogs kept apart by chain will often bark more, possibly creating problems for your neighbors, and they will not be able to interact with each other in their natural modality. Hydration Hydration is an essential and too often overlooked aspect of keeping a dog outdoors. It is mandatory that a dog have ready access to fresh water at all times. Lack of fresh water can lead to life threatening conditions such as dehydration and hypothermia, and to diseases and infection if the dog must resort to drinking unsanitary ground water. Dogs tend to knock over and spill bowls of water, especially with their chains. The best and easiest way to assure fresh water access is to attach an animal drinking nozzle to the end of a hose or to an outdoor faucet. These nozzles are available at most pet stores - they prevent the water from running except when the dog drinks from it, and then it only lets out a trickle the dog can handle. Dogs learn very quickly how to drink from such a nozzle after you show them how to retrieve the water from the nozzle. In winter climates, when water freezes, hydration is more complicated, but just as critical. Outdoor dogs will develop hypothermia if they do not have enough fresh water, because they hydrate themselves by eating snow, and their bodies lose too much thermal energy melting the snow into water. Every morning, prepare a large bucket of soup made of fresh water and small amount of canned dog food. There should be enough water in the bucket for a full day's water ration. The dog will smell the meat, but will quickly understand it must drink all the water in order to reach the dog food, which has sunk to the bottom. If dogs are also left out overnight in the winter months (common for Huskies), they should have an evening soup too. Generally, you should not leave food outdoors for dogs, because the scent of the food can attract undesirable animals into the dog's habitat. Emotional In terms of being alone, chaining a dog is not much different than leaving it alone at home. However there could be other factors - neighborhood children could tease a chained dog. Or the dog might fret at seeing other animals out of reach. Neighbors A chained dog might bark while you are away. Often dog owners are not aware of just how often and loud their dogs bark when left alone outdoors. Neighbors might not always inform you about a noisy dog, even when they become annoyed. You should therefore ask your neighbors if they have noticed any problems with your dog within a week of first setting it out on a chain, and periodically thereafter. Trial Setting Consider chaining the dog outdoors on a weekend, or when you will be at home. Close the curtains and blinds to prevent the dog from seeing you inside the house, because the dog will behave differently if it thinks you are nearby. Periodically check up on the dog without letting it see you, and leave a window open so you will hear it barking. Observe what problems the dog encounters, and assess how you can adjust the dog's environment to mitigate those problems. Alternatives Instead of chaining the dog, you can try other solutions, such as fencing, invisible fencing (electronic collar on the dog), or leaving it inside. Alternatives don't always work, and can be expensive. Some dogs are diggers, and will eventually escape from a fenced area. While invisible fencing works on almost all dogs, I have seen a few dogs impervious to invisible fencing. Some breeds do not do well indoors. Other Factors I once chained my dogs in a very large back yard near a river, but discovered they were chained along the path painted turtles took between the river and their nesting grounds. The dogs "played" with the turtles, which sadly proved fatal for the turtles. I therefore had to relocate the dogs' chained area to ensure safe passage for the turtles. ---- In my way of thinking, they do suffer in some ways if chained and isolated. Dogs are naturally pack animals and very social creatures and enjoy the interaction with their owners(or "alpha leaders")

I don't know if you can stop it, but to keep her from damaging her bed put down an extra sheet or blanket. She is probably trying to make a nest, but cant because that material is attached to the dog bed.

Directly after being, a puppy will lose some energy, as they are healing form the surgery. However, after the healing process is over they will be back to their normal selves. There are some added benefits with getting your dog spayed. It can help smooth out temperamental problems, and you will not get big mood changed when the dog goes into heat.

The reason a dog will still wag it's tail, and express niceness, is because they are so afraid, they have no idea what to do. They are in essence trying to make peace with the person abusing them, and simply trying to remain loyal, despite someone hurting an innocent Doggy.

There is very little you can do at home to stop a dog's diarrhea, and much of what you can try presumes the problem is stress or a minor intestinal infection. You can try adding some canned pumpkin or beets to your dog's food (no salt added, preferrably) to add some fiber, which may help solidify your dog's stools. You can also try waiting it out a couple of days.

However, if your dog is acting otherwise ill (doesn't want to play, doesn't want to eat, etc.) or if the diarrhea doesn't resolve in a couple of days, you need to take your dog to your veterinarian for an examination.

Incidentally, you should NEVER give your dog human medications - dogs are very sensitive to human medications and you can cause a severe overdose or even death with them.

Sometimes they will cry and circle around even as a puppy. Once in a great while you will even find a puppy that goes straight for the door and cries. If it is an older dog that you have adopted they may go to the door or even an older dog will whimper sometimes. The best solution to potty training a puppy that I've found is right after they have their meal and a drink afterwards it is time to scoop them up and/or lead them outside and repeatedly speak in a calm, loving firm voice, Puppy Potty or "Spot" Potty. And when the dog does go, praise, praise, praise him/her. Repeatedly and in a happy type voice, tell them they are a "Good Dog" or What a Good Boy/Girl. You can also reward appropriate behavior right away or once you get back in the house with a milk bone or other treat. Any of these suggestions have worked well with both puppies and older dogs that I have adopted. Good luck with your new friend if you recently acquired one! :~)

There are two kinds of growling: play growling and 'I mean it' growling. Play growling can safely be ignored. 'I mean it' growling should be taken seriously and evaluated by an expert. Play growling naturally occurs during play. The whole rest of the dog's body is expressing playfulness. Play growling uses shorter syllables and the pitch goes up and down rapidly. It's almost as if the pup is trying to talk. I think they sound like crusty old pirates. "Arrr Arrr, Me Hardy!"

There's also something that sounds a little like growling, but is actually groaning. Again, the dog's body language gives a clue. If he is relaxed and not making eye contact, odds are it is a groan.

However, if a dog stares you straight in the eyes and emits a long, steady, low growl, with his body tense, he is warning that if you persist he will bite. If he's growling at you, you have a problem that should be addressed with the help of an expert. Handling it wrong or trying to fix it yourself based on something you've seen on TV about dominance can get you seriously injured.

If you're insistant on trying it on your own, try a non-confrontational approach like the NILIF (Nothing In Life Is Free) program. This program may be effective if the problem is resource guarding (ie growling when you try to take food or a toy away or try to move them from a chair or the bed).

== == * Sometimes it's not a good idea to teach your dog not to growl. This is especially true if there are aggression issues. A dog's growl can be his way of telling you something is making him uncomfortable to the point he is going to snap. I've seen where people have taught their dog not to growl, so now they just bite without warning. Before I took courses to become a certified dog trainer I was a fan of "The Dog Whisperer". That style of teaching is not well thought of in the positive reinforcement community of trainers. There was an article in the New York Times entitled "Pack of Lies" that pointed out the dangers involved with trying to dominate an aggressive dog the way Cesar does. I personally think you have to be crazy to use an alpha roll on any dog especially an aggressive one. When I see Cesar forcefully exposing a dog to its fear over and over (flooding) I know there are more humane ways of training a dog. The whole idea treating a dog as though it was a wild animal is not needed considering they have been domesticated for about 15,000 years. There are several teaching styles but I find using positive reinforcement to be the most effective. * We must realize that dogs growl for many reasons. Dogs can sense when something is wrong or if a person isn't what they appear to be so pay attention to when your dog growls. It doesn't matter if it's a family member, friend or someone you just met. Dogs that may growl at children could be the cause of a child tormenting the dog that you aren't aware of or at least neighborhood children that antagonized the dog to the point it doesn't like children. If this is the case then the dog should be put somewhere away from any children that may visit your home or muzzled until you get the dog trained. Also tying up your dog in the yard is a no-no. Dogs can be 'shamed' when they do something wrong (one should never hit a dog) and loved and praised when they do something right. My husband and I hired a good trainer instead of going to over-crowded classes. Our dogs listen to commands well and also watch our hand signals. Believe it or not we use "grunts" if we are displeased with them or want them to do something such as coming back to us if they are chasing something. For instance, if they are growling we will get up and investigate as to why (usually it's the mailman, paper boy, etc.) but there were times when strangers came to our house that we had our doubts about. We simply say, "eh!" in a sharp tone or "huh" in a different tone. Then we pet the dog and tell them to lay down while we investigate the problem. There are times it's been dark in the backyard and I'll let my dogs investigate, but then give the command after a minute or two for them to come to my side. A well trained dog is a total pleasure to have around and others get to enjoy them as well. * Training is the key to all behavioral problems with animals. You first have to teach your dog that you are the leader or "Alpha Male," and then you need to communicate to him what kinds of behaviors are acceptable or unacceptable. There is an excellent television series called "The Dog Whisperer" that teaches and demonstrates how to deal with behavioral problems in dogs. * Try to coax him off with a treat. If there's one thing my beagle can't resist, it's food. Then, whenever he gets off the furniture without growling or biting or takes criticism without howling, give him a reward. Hopefully, this will encourage him to continue his good behavior and stop the bad behavior. * No don't use a treat, that only reinforces bad behavior. Something deeper is going on then just him wanting to sit on the couch. Your dog is acting like a pack leader would act. He sees you as lower then him in the pact and he's letting you know that he doesn't like it when you move him off the couch. * I'm going to guess that in general, he acts out or behaves badly in a lot of situations. This is because you as the owner are not being the pack leader like you should be. He is seeing weakness in you and by his nature as a dog, is assuming the role as pack leader. * You need to be taking the attitude with him that what you says goes. I'm not talking about beating him into submission, you should never, ever beat a dog. Your voice needs to be firm and you need to stand firm when dealing with him. And reward behavior that is good, such as submitting to you or doing what you want. A reward doean't have to be a food treat. A few warm words and a head rub goes a long way toward reinforcing good behavior. * You might also check you local paper to see if there are any trainors in your area. And I'm not talking about just training your dog. You need to be trained also on how to be a proper pack leader for a dog. == ==

Well, they don't, They sniff the part to see if it is a boy. I have two dogs, one a male and one a female. My male dog licks the females part to greet each other or to see if it is a boy or girl. My female dog does lick the genitals of the male so please do not keep giving me the same reply.Why does she do it and how to stop it

Yes, very smart. I have two and they look at my husband and I right in our eyes when we are talking to them. They really listen and learn fast. I will never have any dog except a poodle from now on. A little headsup, they are vocal and bark a lot because they are protective of their home.

Yes, after a dog is neutered they will calm down. By neutering your dog, you are eliminating some of the mood swings that they would have otherwise had because of hormones. This will even out their temperament and they will be a lot easier to handle.

They are omnivores, but they are more carnivorous then they are herbivorous . Meat is the only way naturally dogs could be carnivorous. They see it as a great supply of energy enough to get them to the next day. Dogs also, naturally go for as much food as possible, so they won't waste a chance to get a piece of meat (or survival, per say).

Do NOT provoke or initiate aggressive behavior with a dog. Dogs are potentially dangerous animals that can kill you, and many will attack if they feel they are in danger. Also to consider, you never know what kind of diseases a dog may be carrying.

If you are bitten by a dog, see a medical professional immediately.

Dogs can be afraid of other dogs for many reasons, one may be that your dog is a very submissive dog. When other dominant dogs approach the to other dog will be submissive and scared. Another reason the dog will be scared is because it may have been abused by owner, or beaten up by other dogs.

About eight weeks. If you want to sell the puppies, NEVER SELL THEM TO PUPPY MILLS! At puppy mill they lock the dogs in rabbit hutches and breed them to death. If you want to sell your puppies, make sure they go to a good home where if they go out into the road they won't get hit by a car, let me rephrase that, make sure they go to a home where they keep an eye on the dog when it's outside, and they have a fence. Two of my dogs have been hit by a car and died. Another one was eaten by a wild dog pack which ate our neighbors little poodle. I hope you have a good expierience with the puppies.
