Currently I have been looking after a pom. I have dog cat allergies I have had the pom for a week now and was a badly affected when I got him but I am now starting to come through and my body not notice him being around. I have read many things saying that they are not good for allergies others say they are. With allergies it is all down to what affects u it could be saliva or their dander all dogs have dander and poms are said to release less dander. however they can shed alot of hair but this generally gets trapped in there under coat and will need brushing out so doesn't matt. My suggestion if u are thinking of getting a pom or any dog is to visit a breeder spend time with this breed you will soon know. However that been said for most people it takes a month to get used to the dog my brother was very by but after a month was fine with his do which is a collie. After looking after this pom I am thinking of keeping him so they can't be that bad as I used to really suffer. Unfortunately with allergies it is specific to the individual and the dog. I have found I am also ok with cockapoodle, poodles and chitzus. I have I find it's dogs which have less dander regardless of how much hair they shed. Hope this has helped alittle. But I couldn't confirm u will be ok with a pom. They are however dogs with slot of character.

If you have another dog he will try to mark his or her before the other, it you house is dusty it smells like outside dirt and they smell it and they mark as close as they can by were they smell it

Beagles are highly trainable, but are also easily distracted. If you are considering a beagle as a pet know that they will follow their nose. If they pick up a scent the tend to follow it and ignore anything else. They can also be stubborn, but respond well to food-based, positive reward training. As with all dogs, they just need patience. You would do best to keep training sessions short and lively as they do tend to lose interest quickly.

For most breeds it is 7-9 months of age. Depends on the dog, not the breed, (in my experience.) If you plan on breeding her, wait for the second heat. If you plan on having her fixed, contact your vet as to when would be a good time.

Some dogs eat dirt because their bodies tell them to. This can be because of a mineral deficiency (not just iron) that is somehow improved by consuming dirt off the ground. Unless the dirt is contaminated by something harmful to the animal, this practice of eating dirt may actually be good for them.

It depends on how old the dog is. If it is young it is very easy to mold it's mind, if it is old, it will be very difficult as it is already set in its ways. A good way to do it is to say their name before the command, and say it firmly. Dont yell at them, or sound angry, but say it like you mean business. If they do it, offer them a treat, or give them a lot of quick, positive attention. Repeat this as often as possible so that they know what to do when you say that specific command. If they don't follow, you can just repeat the command. If they're doing something bad and you catch them in the act, you can take a small spray bottle and give them a little squirt and say bad *name* or bad dog, once again, not angrily, but firmly. They don't like this, so they learn from their actions. Trust me, this is way better than punishing them by putting them in their kennel or box, and hitting is never the answer, that will just make a mean dog.

Take your dog to a local Dog Obedience class so you both can learn. Purchase a 6 foot leather lead along with a choke chain. Measure around your dog's neck and add 2 inches to get the correct size of the choke chain. Check with your Veterinarian or local Animal Shelter or nearest feed store or local newspaper for the nearest dog obedience class. This will help you and your dog immensely. Using your lead with your choke chain is what gets their attention and makes them mind but you need someone to show you all of this and be with other dogs to help socialize him or her.

Coprophagia is the act of eating feces (poop). Dogs may eat their own poop, the poop of other dogs, or the poop of other animals, such as poop in a litter box. They may do it because they were raised in dirty conditions, such as a puppy mill, because they were removed from their mother too soon, because they are missing nutrients or ill, or simply because they like to.

First rule out a medical cause. If your dog is not receiving proper nutrition he can start eating poop to try to meet any deficiency. A disease called Endocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) can cause a dog to not metabolize his food properly, even if you feed a high quality diet. If your dog is a German Shepherd and the poop he makes is of an unusual texture, color, or is diarhea,and if he has difficulty keeping weight on, suspect EPI and get a vet evaluation. There may be other diseases that cause a dog to eat poop, so regardless of whether you suspect EPI, discuss this problem with your vet to rule out a medical cause.

If it is a bad habit, with no medical cause, you must start first with prevention. There are food additives you can put in the food of the dog whose poop is being eaten. What kind of dog do you have? It could be that your dog doesn't know when he/she is full and will continue this until he/she dies. Try leaving ONE bowl of water at every meal. Do NOT put out any more unless you came back from a walk/run/whatever you do. Even then, only fill the bowl, at the most, three times. A specific type of dog has that flaw within their genes. My papillon barks hardly at all, but it does depend on the dog. These dogs do tend to make fair guard dogs for apartment living because they can be protective of their owners and they do let you know when there is someone at the door. I would not condiser them very yappy dogs though.

First thing I look for is the breeding environment. Are the animals being socialized with humans? Is the pen area clean and do the pups seem healthy? Then, if I'm going to choose a pup, I generally choose the runt of the litter. Why? Because they seem to be the most loyal, simply because you've rescued them from a situation where they might not survive (that's not as much as an issue now days, but the runts do seem to be more greatful and loving). If that doesn't matter, then I'd let the pup choose you. My last one kept coming up and poking me in the foot with his nose while the others didn't seem to even recognize I was there. Narurally, I picked that pup and never regretted one second of having him. (Unfortunately, he just passed away from lymphoma (cancer) just before he reached 8 years old.) Just remember, you're making a commitment to the pup and he'she will make one to you, too. It's for life, folks, so treat 'em like they're part of the family and you'll be rewarded in more ways than I can mention.
