DVD players cannot play Bluray discs. The lasers and the data storage are different so no data can be read from a Bluray disc in a DVD drive. That is the case whether or not there is any up-scaling available in the player.

Bluray players on the other hand are quite happy to play DVDs as well as Bluray discs.

A VCD is a video CD-ROM. Same format as audio CDs except instead of encoding audio the disk holds encoded video and audio. The format is pretty much extinct now, but most PCs and DVD players will still play them if they are inserted.

Converting VHS to DVD will require more than just software, one will need a specialist video card able to receive the signal from the VHS. The surface is made of special alloys that are melted by the write laser in the CD-RW drive. These melted areas are read by the laser. When it's time to record over the CD, the laser heats up the alloy and melts the data into a new pattern.

yes, find a player for your digital video (probably your digital video camera) and it should have an analogue output, usually a yellow video cable which you can plug into the back of a VCR.

Yes. The DVD player does,'t usually go through the tuner. The "new digital TV" just means that it has a digital tuner. This won't affect things like DVD players that don't use the antenna input.

At Radio Shack a bare bones (but considering today's technology, there were all bare bones) RCA DVD player ran me $300 bucks plus tax. At the time HDMI didn't exist, so I used an optical audio cable (which at the time was 40 bucks for 4 feet), and a component video cable (which ran me 40 bucks too). At the time with the equipment I had I couldn't tell a difference between a brand new VHS movie (that didn't have wear points in the tape) and DVD.

The first DVD I bought after I bought the player was Face/Off, which was the cheapest on the entire rack at Wal-Mart, which cost 25 bucks.

A 2 Disc DVD movie can fit on a single Blu-Ray Disc and be in HD which is more GB. The length of a Movie remains the same, but the Blu-ray has more room to add extras besides the movie.
