You can buy a DVD hdd recorder at any retail store that sells electronics, such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy, or Radioshack. These stores have reasonable prices for good quality items.

With today's computer monitors, that's very unlikely to work without a lot of supporting electronics. One of the main reasons is that computer monitors don't usually use standard scan rates. Unless you can find an old composite monitor, like a Commodore 1705 which has a composite video input, and providing the DVD player also has a composite video output, your chances are very slim.

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, as I expect you know are the next generation in film viewing. By using a shorter more accurate blue laser instead of the standard red laser more information can be stored on the same size disk. This makes them ideal for high definition films. The main difference between them is capacity, Bluray can hold 25Gb on a single layer disk, and 50Gb on a dual layer disk, whereas HD-DVD is only able to hold 15Gb single layer, and 30Gb dual layer. HD-DVD disks are more reliable than BR disks, though only marginally so. Another point worth looking at is the price of the players. Currently a HD-DVD player is around £350 GBP, whereas a Bluray player is around £450 GBP. A much more sensible idea is to buy either a PS3 (£400-ish with bluray player built in), or a XBox 360 (£300-ish with expandable HD-DVD drive). Pay around the same price for a HD player and get the ability to play games as well. LG are supposedly developing a player which will play either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. I heard about this a month or so ago, and don't know what stage they are at. As it stands, things are very tight, however I would say HD-DVD is currently more available and cheaper.

From what I understand, a typical DVD Burner will consume 25-30 watts during a peak burn cycle.

This does not include Blue-Ray burners. CD burners will be about 5-15 watts lower.

They vary depending on make and model. Some support the reading of many formats such as AVI, MPEG, Divi, DVD, VCD, MP3 and MOV.

Others are more fussy and only play DVD or CD. Check the specification before purchase. In my experience the cheap, unbranded ones, seem to be the most flexible.

The files are arranged in large blocks of video with the extension *.VOB, VOB seems to be similar to an MPEG file.

It depends on the software and hard disk. Well there are plenty of cheap video recorders, to choose from to find the cheapest it would be a case of shopping around and looking for the best prices.

The DVD uses a different laser with a smaller wavelength, not the long wavelength red laser that is used for CD's. I believe the DVD laser is in the ultraviolet spectrum. Anywho, the smaller laser allows the DVD to have smaller "bumps" (which is what the laser reads). Since they are smaller, more can fit onto a disk. Also, DVD's can be 2-layer. Twice the data.

In order to do a factory reset on a blu ray player, you will need to program the TV to the input that plays the blue ray player. Next, go to setup and go to the option that says resetting all settings to default values.

CDs, DVDs and BluRay discs all work in similar ways. The primary difference is the data density on each disc. CD is the lowest density. A DVD can store several times the amount of data on the same surface area and BluRay will store several time the amount of a DVD.

The instructions to do so should be in the owner's manual that came with your Blu-Ray player. If you don't have one, go to the website of the player's manufacturer and look for the manual on the website (be sure to know your player's model number in order to get the correct one)

You put in the code you entered when you locked it in the first place. We're assuming that you're the parent and that you put in the code and therefore know it. If that's not the case, then you don't unlock it, kid.

The region codes are stored in the internal microprocessor. You'd have to find a way to re-code the operating system.

It depends on the Blu-ray player. Some Blu-ray Players are quite easy to do by entering a series of numbers from the remote control. Others need to have the chip modified inside the player itself - and others are almost impossible to do.

Search the internet for the model you have and you should find an answer for that particular one. Or, if you haven't bought it yet, find out which is an easy one to do and buy that one.

Two possible things I can think of off hand. The first is that the sled is hanging up or that the laser's out of focus. Oh, and here's a third, it may be that the laser or associated circuitry gone bad.

a portable DVD player can be reasonably priced depending on the features you are looking for. a portable DVD player with two screens is going to cost more than one with one screen.

The best way would be through a HDMI to HDMI cable. These are fairly common and your TV probably has a HDMI input. Your DVD player might not though. You can also use a S-Video cable however some TV don't have options for this. Another thing you can use is is an AV plug. These are the yellow, white, and red cables.
