Rather than a Biblical conundrum, this is looking like one of those quiz questions that always gets a groan from the assembled quizzers when the answer is revealed. The 'Good Friday' referred to is actually the name of a racehorse. I don't know when or even if the horse had a fall on a Saturday but it certainly fell on Boxing Day, the 26th December in 1899 during a race at Wolverhampton, England. Boxing Day was actually on a Tuesday in 1899 but assuming it is the same horse its fall on a Saturday must be within just a few years either side of 1899 as a horse's racing career is not a particularly long one.

I believe there is a similar question something along the lines of 'when did midsummer land on easter day' - a similar event where one horse landed on top of another that had already fallen after a jump during a race - I cant remember the actual names but you get the idea.

The Easter Vigil

The tradition of hanging decorated eggs on an Easter tree (usually a cluster of branches brought into someone's home and kept in a vase) comes from Germany, were originally handmade ornaments were hung instead of eggs. The ornaments represented different Bible verses, all the way from Genesis to the Gospels. Children would add one ornament per day to the "tree" all the way through lent up to Easter. Sometimes just one ornament was added per week, then one each day during the week before Easter.

Another meaning of the Easter tree is the medieval legend that the tree which provided the wood for Jesus' cross came from a long line of trees which began with a beautiful tree in the garden of Eden. This shows the dual death/rebirth nature of the cross.

Easter is celebrated in Germany as a traditional religious holiday. There are also records of Germanic folk customs to include hares and giving away colored eggs going back to before the Birth of Christ. Our modern day Easter celebrations likely borrowed some of these customs and the name Easter from the Celtic-Germanic Ostara Festival which celebrated the spring Goddess Ostara.

Colored boiled eggs are seldom available in stores. You have to buy eggs, boil them and color them yourself. You can buy Easter egg coloring at any store like Walmart, Kmart and Target. Vinegar is usually added to the coloring, so you need that, too.

This is not something that I have done, but I the logically answer would be to make the Easter Egg more interesting as sometimes when you buy eggs they can be quite dull and boring. So my only answer can be that the person wanted to decorate and improve it.

Catholics and most Protestants use the new Gregorian calendar decreed by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 to calculate the date of Easter. The time of Easter is based on the cycles of the moon, the equinox, and seasons and things in nature. In simple (?) terms Easter occurs on the first Sunday following the first full moon that occurs on or after the day of the vernal equinox (the first day of spring). In 2008 the vernal equinox will be on Thursday, March 20. The first full moon after that will be Friday, March 21. Thus, Easter will be on Sunday, March 23. The earliest Easter can be is March 22 as it was last in 1818 and will be next in 2285. The latest Easter can be is April 25 as it was last in 1943 and will be next in 2038.
