Why is the national grid system better than each town having its own supply?

Because then every town has the same voltage: before, if there was a sudden demand for electricity in one town- nearby towns couldn't help for they had different voltages. So, the town couldn't cope with the electricity demand but now it can because of the National Grid.

What causes magnitism?

Like electrons aligning up. This is the theory of magnetism. It is believed the electrons align positive (or negative), in the same direction creating magnetism.

When you pass a magnet across a shaft of a screwdriver, you cause the electrons to align in the screwdriver shaft, creating another magnet.

What could be wrong if your home air conditioning unit is always cut off electricity?

sounds like you have a 100 amp service to your home.. that will need to be upgraded to a 200 amp service.. you shouldn't have any problems after upgrade..

How do you clean lint from a refrigerator motor?

As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed.

Before you do any work yourself,

on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances,

always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.

IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOB

SAFELY AND COMPETENTLY

REFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

Would using a 60 foot extension cord which is 6 gauge 3 wire cord on a 220 volt single phase welder present any problems?

It shouldn't. Check the nameplate for input amperage of the machine. Your #6 wire is good for 60 amps. If the nameplate amperage is below 60 amps then you are good to go.

Is water a good conductor or insulator of electricity?

Pure water is a poor conductor of electricity. However, water can conduct electricity if it contains impurities or if it has a high concentration of ions. Distilled water and pure water do not conduct electricity well.

What is an object that does not allow electricity to flow through?

An object that does not allow electricity to flow through easily is an insulator.

It is so hard that it often won't go through at all. Sometimes you find an exception, like lightening.

There is nothing that electricity cannot flow through altogether.

What is the 60 Hz on a welder with the listed input as 208 230 volt single phase 60Hz?

60 Hertz is the frequency that the welder should be connected to, to work as it is designed to.

How do you calculate the watts of a central air and heat unit?

You should not have to calculate the watts of the unit. All the information that you need will be on the nameplate of the unit. It is this information that electricians use to calculate the conductor size and breaker to supply the power to the unit.

We have an older vitamaster treadmill can't find manual there are two clip-ons one black and one white Where should these be clipped on?

The black clipon is to attach to your ear for measuring your pulse. It has to be clipped on all the way to get good readings.

The white clipon is a safety cutoff. It will stop the treadmill if you fall. Hook it to the waistband of your shorts or sweats.

I have one of hese machines.

Hope this helps. Roger

What does A stand for in electricity?

Amperes (Amps). Apms are the SI unit of electrical current

What senses dangerous leaking electricity and shuts it off quickly?

A GFCI or RCD.

In full: A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter or Residual Current Device.

What does a potentiometer do?

A potentiometer varies the amount of current through an electrical or electronic circuit. EX: the volume control on your radio is a potentiometer. In today's electronic circuitry, digital circuits that change resistance do the same job as the rotary type control do. They tend to be more accurate.

How is the acceptable insulation of an electrical generator determined?

Engineers usually spec that the insulation test be 5 Megohms to ground. In reality in outdoor applications 2 Megohms is quite acceptable.

Advantages of parallel circuit?

A parallel circuit can run several devices using the full voltage of the supply, varying the current to the need of each device. If one device fails, the others will continue running normally. If the device shorts, the other devices will receive no voltage, preventing overload damage.

A series circuit divides the supply voltage among the devices with a consistent current. If one device fails, all other devices in the circuit will either fail to receive voltage or receive too much voltage and become damaged in the case of a short.
An advantage of parallel circuits is increasing the power rating of the circuit and reducing the resistance.

Will mustard oil conduct electricity and why?

Yes, mustard oil can conduct electricity to some extent because it contains impurities and contaminants that can allow for the flow of current. However, it is not a good conductor compared to materials specifically designed for conducting electricity.

What amount of electricity is needed to power a city?

Depends on the size, to power a city of one million inhabitants is required average electric power of 475 megawatt-hours (MWh)
