How can air pollution cause emphysema?
The dust particles comes from air pollution and the concentration of carbondioxide is higher in it...so,when they enter in human body it start the destruction of the walls of alveoli...and the low concentration of oxygen disturb the gaseous exchange between alveoli and the capillries... By this exhalation process can't be done..In sever cases it can cause death...
Why do you always feel like you have to cough up mucus but you never can get any up?
A genetic disorder called 'Cystic Fibrosis', maybe responsible for the over production of mucus. Otherwise, production of mucus is your bodies reaction to dust or other elements that could damage the lungs. The part of the airway that allows the mucus to move up, is called the cilia (tiny hairs that brush the mucus up away from the lungs) which may be damaged not allowing the mucus to travel up and out the airway. The cause of not being able to get rid of mucus or it being too thick could also be because of your water intake. The higher the intake, the thinner the mucus and also the more regularly the mucus is cleaned.
A pathological diagnosis defined as the permanent destructive enlargement of the air spaces distal to the terminal bronchioles, resulting in loss of alveolar surface area and reduction of oxygen exchange. Scarring of the lungs, usually caused by pollutants. At one point it was determined that over 95% of all people with emphysema were smokers. Just about everyone else had been working in an environment that had severely toxic pollutants. Smoking causes a temporary paralysis of the cilia in the lungs. Cilia are the fine, hair-like structures that are constantly in motion to move toxic particles out of the lungs. When the cilia are paralyzed, toxic particles can stay in one place and cause irritation. The irritation eventually turns to scar tissue and/or cancer. Smoking one cigarette can cause paralysis of the cilia for about an hour. It's as though cigarettes were specifically designed to cause emphysema. They have the toxic stubstances and they have a method of keeping the substances in contact with the lungs.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most common lung diseases. It makes it difficult to breathe. There are two main forms of COPD: Chronic bronchitis, which involves a long-term cough with mucus; Emphysema, which involves destruction of the lungs over time.
What age group is most affected by emphysema?
i researched it for my project but it doesn't give me the age it only gave me this:infant , young children and elderly
People with emphysema will be...
1. Short of breath and have to breath in and out alot more than a healthy person, because there tidal volume has decreased so cannot hold as much gas.
2.The surface area of the alveoli is reduced.
3.The reduced surface area of the alveoli means that they can sometimes burst.
Is it normal to have mood swings when you suffer from emphysema?
Only my personal opinion, but I would think that any irreversible physical condition as potentially severe as emphysema would cause extended dips in self-esteem, cheerfulness, well-being, self-confidence, euphoria, et al.
Can exercise improve lung fonction for emphasema?
Some exercise can help people to train the lung and all the respiratory system.
You best try Chinese QiGong, they have some special way to train and heal organs.
What is emphysema usually caused by?
Emphysema is a condition where there are little holes in the air sacs in the lungs. It is usually caused by excessive smoking.
Emphasyma (in humans) is from second hand cigarette smoke. If a horse has emphasyma it may be from inhaling smoke over a long period of time. But what is likely the case is that the horse has what is called the heaves. An unfortunately incurable problem much like chronic bronchitis. The heaves is caused by lung infections that have been left untreated and that have destroyed the cells in the lungs beyond repair. Try researching the heaves in horses and see where that gets you.
Does swelling in lower legs be caused by emphysema?
Probably. If you have emphysema and cannot breathe well, not enough oxygen is going through your body. Swelling of the legs could be a symptom of it not getting enough oxygen. Since the legs are extremities of the body, the body could be keeping the oxygen through different routes, closer to the core.
