Who has right of way in a riding arena?

you ride with the left hand facing the wall closest to you and the right hand into the areana and when you are asked or you want to change rein you ride in a little circle till youre right hand faces the wall.

That is factually incorrect. In the UK, you ride left to left but in France your ride right to right. when you are showjumping and warming up there is a red flag on the right which shows you which jump to go over.the correct direction

-------u pass left shoulder to left shoulder-the person going to the left has the right of way

Always pass on the right (follow this rules if you are going the same speed as the person you are passing and they are going the opposite direction as you), In every other scenario pass on the inside of the person that is going at a slower gait. It is always polite to tell the person you are passing by saying "Inside!" if you know the person's name add that to the end, if not say the horse color. Ex: "Inside Molly!" or "Inside Bay!" Obviously you shouldn't say this in the show ring as this might loose you some points.

Should you learn to canter in the half seat or sitting?

Use of the half seat is supposed to be easier on a horse's back but requires strength and balance that a beginner rider usually doesn't possess. Lack of strength and balance will lend itself to balancing with the reins in a half seat. Unless the rider has the conditioning aat the walk and trot to effect a balanced half seat before they start to canter a sitting canter is easieroon both the horse and rider.

What is horse equation?

Equitation is the art or practice of horse riding or horsemanship.

More specifically, equitation may refer to a rider's position while mounted, and encompass a rider's ability to ride correctly and with effective aids. Inhorse show competition, the rider, rather than the horse is evaluated. Such classes go by different names, depending on region, including equitation classes, rider classes, or horsemanship classes.

What color are the breeches a hunt seat rider shows with a shad belly in Morgan shows?

The shadbelly is to be worn with either buff or canary breeches (NO WHITE)…and can only be worn in a qualifying class if it is AFTER 6pm. If it is a Championship class, it can be worn at any time during the day. (per USEF Morgan rules)

Again, being more traditional, even though rules permit more liberal use, you would only catch me in a shadbelly if it were a Championship class…at night…in a large (ie: NE, OKC) show. I would even hesitate to wear it in anything but the open division.

Are there English horseback riding competitions in the west?

There are English competitions all over the world. I live in lower central Texas in a small town, and it's not hard to find hunter jumper or dressage competitions near me, even though I ride western style. I know there are english competitions all over California, though depending in if it's more rural or 'country' where you are, western riding and cattle ranches are also popular. I do know that in places like Nevada or Utah where wild horses, horse and cattle ranches are common do not have as much english riding, but there are competitions and camps.
