Is the Mona Lisa a classical art painting?

Realistic I guess you would say. It is a half portrait of Lisa de Giocondo painted by Leonardo da Vinci. While the background was painted in a way that would give the image depth and may not have existed, the subject did; and as it is a portrait of her, I would say it is meant to be realistic in it presentation of her image. However, in the arts realistic or realism means something slightly different than a true image of the subject. Rather, it means the subject of the image is as it would be in everyday life. So the Mona Lisa being a planned portrait would not be realism or realistic.

What type of art is starry night by Vincent van gogh?

Van Gogh was struggling, as all artists do, with a particular area of artistic achievement. In this case, he was trying to capture a simplicity, a power, and perhaps a message, from the natural world. This is something he perceived within the scene of that starry night reflecting in the river, and he wished to make it plain for others to see, as well. He was applying "the end justifies the means," and if that meant a simplistic, surrealistic, even garish piece of art work, it didn't matter as long as his message was conveyed successfully.

Humanism in the Last Supper?

Leonardo da Vinci had a famous painting called the Last Supper. This is a picture of Jesus at his last supper and there are many people around him, this is a simple picture but it is different from the paintings before, and if you look into it is very complex. There are humanism themes embedded in the painting. In the background of the painting there are windows, and out the windows there is landscape of hills and other thing. This shows real life and the depth of the painting, all the different layers of the painting. Then there is also immense amounts of symmetry in this painting. This was important to humanism because everything was supposed to be balanced. Also man's perfection was a big part in the renaissance, and a body id symmetrical. So some symmetry in The Last Supper was, on either side of Jesus was a group of six people, then in those groups of people each was split into two other groups, all very even and symmetrical. There was also four panels on each side of the walls. Another characteristic of humanism art was real emotions. Every single person in this painting( besides Jesus, who was left out for obvious reasons) is not smiling. They are giving real emotions. Humanism art was all about emotions, and being real. All the people in the painting seem concerned or anxious, all real emotions, they are not just happy all the time. Like what was stated before, artist of the time wanted to show how real people in the paintings were. All the people have shaded in feature which give them the look of real people. It also looks like there was a light coming one side of the room, so it hit the peoples face and made them look all different. Humanists also focused in religion( as well as secular views) because people in ancient Greece studied religion and humanist were trying to make their lives as similar to ancient Greece as possible.

Etoil (E.H.) Narmour was my grandmother. She lived in Lubbock, Texas and died in 1978. I don't know how much your painting is worth but to me I suppose it would be priceless. I would be interested in knowing what year she painted it. I have a picture of her painting at the art guild with my dad sitting beside her. He is about fourtheen. It must have been in the late forties. My dad grew up to be a very successful architect, I am a visual arts teacher, my sister is an interior designer and my youngest sister is a commercial graphics artist. My daughter just graduated in arts education and my other two children are very talented artistically as well. My grandmother has left a wonderful artistic legacy to hopefully continue through more generations. Congratulation on your painting, I hope you will enjoy it for many years to come.
