Is poppler a good wood to burn in a stove?

Poplar ("poppler") is a soft wood, like pine, and thus doesn't produce a lot of heat when burned. If well seasoned it will burn quickly and well in most stoves. Unlike pine, which contains a lot of resin which will deposit dangerous creosote in your chimney if burned slowly, well-seasoned poplar is relatively clean-burning. Hard woods such as maple, oak, cherry, etc. will provide more heat per volume of wood.

Can Fireplace pull heated air from room?

All fires needs oxygen to burn and heat rises. So, the fire will pull air into it and the heat and smoke will then go up the chimney. The result will be heat loss from the house, however, here will also be some heat added from the radiant heat of the fire.

If you really want to get heat from a fireplace, the best thing you can do is install a wood, gas, pellet or some sort of bio-fuel insert into it.

Can you add a fan to your return air duct to help move wood burning stove heat into other rooms?

  1. Some coal furnace manufacturers used to provide for that.
I used to have a furnace with two efficiency ratings. It was a coal furnace (modified-to-oil).
It was set up for gravity feed, and this involved large sloping airducts and a *huge* diameter return pipe. The heat from it was very gentle and uniform and quiet.
A fan on the return duct could be added to convert it to a 'forced air' furnace, with the higher efficiency rating. Some of my neighbours had systems like that.

So if you didn't mind the pipe octopus, it worked fine.

Notes: The gravity coal furnace required no electricity, but the oil-burner-modified version did.

Is it ok to eat roasted marshmallows over a gas fireplace?

If you have a HOT fireplace room in your house which direction should ceiling fan blades turn to push the heat into OTHER rooms?

You will likely find that a ceiling fan will not satisfactorily circulate air between rooms. However, you will find that setting the fan rotation to circulate air from the ceiling to the floor will maintain a more even room temperature since hot air rises.

Some people prefer to set their fans so it pulls the air from the floor to the ceiling if the draft from the fan is uncomfortable.

Do you close the flue after lighting a gas fireplace?

NO. a flue should never be closed when a fire is lit. It is the way poisonous gases like carbon monoxide are taken out of a room, hallway or any enclosed space. flues can be closed only when a fire is not being used,to keep out draughts on windy days.

What is a fireplace bellow?

A fireplace bellows is a great fireplace accessory that helps pump oxygen to your fire to fuel the flames. Air moves through the bellows as you open and close it and flows through a nozzle. If you point the bellows at the base of your fire, it can help increase the heat of the fire and the size of the flame. It's a common fireplace tool found around the hearth. Check out some examples of fireplace accessories below.

Why not to put two stove pipes into one flue?

Putting two stove pipes into one flue can create several safety hazards, including the risk of flue gas backdraft, which can lead to dangerous carbon monoxide buildup in your home. This configuration can also cause inefficient venting, leading to poor combustion and increased creosote buildup, raising the risk of chimney fires. Additionally, it may violate local building codes, which typically require separate flues for each appliance to ensure proper ventilation and safety.
