If a gas fireplace is on and the electricity goes out will the fireplace continue to work?
It really all depends on the type of Fireplace you have.
Fireplaces usually run on a pilot with a thermocouple or thermopile. These produce their own milivolts to run the gas valve. These type of fireplaces do not need power to ignite. If the fireplace's on/off switch is a remote that runs off of batteries or is a switch on the faceplate of the fireplace, then this fireplace should work with no power.
Most fireplaces have a blower that circulates the warm air it generates. This fan would be running on 120v from the street and would not work when the power goes out. You may still have a flame on, but all the heat it generates is going out the stack.
Other fireplaces have no fan and are mainly for looks.
You may have a fireplace that is dependent on the 120volts and will do nothing.
Check the operation manual on your fireplace.

Where can parts be obtained for heaters made by Martin Industries?
I have checked all the suppliers that I deal with and can't find any that carry parts for them.
I also checked online and can't find anything on the company. I do see some new one's being sold.
I checked E-Bay and see some parts, But you did not give any information on what kind of heater, or a model #.
Its hard to tell if the Martin company still makes the heater you are referring to.
This is the only website I see for martin IND. You could call them and ask if they are the one's who made your heater.
http://www.martinindustries.us/
Just for future reference, if you put down what kind of a heater, and model #, it is easier
to find product information and you would get a better response.
maybe only if lebron james says yes hopefully i answered your question

How much propane does a gas fireplace use?
Propane (liquid petroleum - LP) Depending on several things is the most costly of fuels so as I recently finished this type of project; I can give you first hand info.
The fireplace Installed was a "zero clearance" unit capable of log burning. The Unit was initially set to be used with gas logs, which I wished to convert to a wood burner with a gas "log lighter." The propane was costing me approx. 1 1/2 times the amount of gas I am currently using and I am having more fires (yes you do have to do more work and there is wood expense etc.) But you can't beat the crackle of a real wood fire.
If you are considering a gas fireplace with LP, you may have to consider the type of unit you install, I would consider a unit that is capable of wood burning; that way you at least will have the option at a future date. Good Luck!

Are fireplace back plates efficient?
Yes. They retain heat to radiate back into the room. They also act as a barrier to protect your firebricks and masonry from over exposure to the direct flame.
Should you close a flue on a wood burning fireplace when not lit?
If you do not close it then you basically have a hole in your roof that is sucking out all the warm air. This will lead to even higher heating and cooling costs.
Can wood next to a pellet stove at home catch fire from hot air?
It's technically possible, if a bit unlikely. Pellet stoves burn extremely hot, and the heated air would tend to dry out wood placed near them, making the wood more prone to catching fire.
Do you have to use a chimney liner when putting a wood stove in a fireplace?
No
The efficiency of the combustion inside the woodstove depends on the temperature and the dryness of the wood.
By controlling the rate at which air and fuel mix you can control rate of burn.
A well-insulated flue may be useful in managing the rate of burn.
I would STRONGLY disagree with the above answer. As a former chimney sweep with ten years + experience I find that most wood stoves when operating a peak efficency create more heat than is desired. This causes people to close down dampers to reduce airflow therby lowering the burn temperature. It is at these lower temps that creasote builds up in the chimney which is what leads to flue fires. With out the protection of a clay or steel liner the only thing separating the fire from your house is a single layer of brick and mortor that are not designed for these temperatures. The brick and mortor will literaly explode allowing the fire to reach the interior walls of your house and put you and your family in danger. If you do decide to use a free standing wood stove or fireplace insert without a proper liner PLEASE if the room get to hot open a door or window instead of shutting down the dampers. The use of an anti-creasote product helps this problem but you should have your chimney swept by a trained professional after every cord of wood burned.
How long doesit take for a rock to explode in a fireplace?
This depends on the type of rock, its moisture and air components. For example, the lava stone that contains many air bubbles and is thus lightweight, will not explode and is often used for fireplace mantles. Featherrock is a national brand name of this stone.
What are the dimensions of a fireplace?
Fireplaces come in all sorts of sizes. There is no one standard size. Some are massive, big enough for a person to stand up in, others are very small, just big enough for one log.
Here are a couple of examples of some modern fireplaces:
A Bonaire electric 31-1/4 by 4 x 23-7/8 inches
A Dimplex electric 11-2/7 by 20 x 23-1/8 inches
Again, these are just a sampling.
no because the fire does not get down there most of the time
Most of the newer stoves burn better with an inch of ash on the bottom. We always advise our customers to do so.
