What is the value of a Franklin wood fireplace model no 311 846800?
I found one for $300.00 dollars but that seems expensive for it really doesn't look that old. the brass ball finials on the corners are relatively thin and flimsy. the two bifold doors seem to be drafty and reduce the efficiency of this for heating purposes. For decorative purposes I think the bigger stoves with chrome or nickel trim look better but the best ones I have seen are made in Germany. Just an opinion.
What wood should not be used in fireplace?
Almost any dry wood is fine. Birch has a nice aroma and provides good heat. If you want a longer lasting fire, larger unsplit logs of almost fresh spruce or pine work well. Most hardwoods (of which birch is one) have pleasant aromas.
Would your 1994 gas fireplace contain asbestos?
It is unlikely that a gas fireplace built in the US in 1994 would contain asbestos, but the only way to know for certain is to have it inspected, and samples collected for analysis if necessary, by a qualified specialist.
How do you remove silly string that has burnt onto the fireplace?

If there is a possibility this is CCA treated wood, it is not a good idea. This is the "green wood" treated lumber common for the past 40 years of so. It was used for exterior wood to resist rot and insects. CCA stands for Chrome-Copper-Arsenic- the 3 metals used to treat the wood. Smoke from this wood is extremely unhealthy. I would not use it.
Which way do you close the chimney damper?
Dampers are usually arranged to close DOWN, so that the weight of the damper keeps it closed. Use a flashlight- it helps to see what you are doing in that very dark place.
Should we have to provide sprinkler in fan room as per NFPA-13?
Can you define the term "fan room"??? We need a little more information here....
How do you fix a LP tank valve?
Rather than repair a defective valve, you will be better served to replace it. Contact your gas supplier for their recommendations for qualified service companies- I really would give this to someone that does it for a living- doing it wrong has very serious consequences.
Is the poplar wood good to burn in a woodstove?
Poplar is the wood the wooden matches are made from. It burns VERY quickly, has a fairly low heat value, and produces few coals for lasting heat. It is not BAD to burn- just not really good. We burn it to dispose of it, or to use for kindling- I would not BUY poplar to burn.
You survived the incident. Flues are not air tight, so some of the carbon monoxide went up the chimney. There was probably enough air movement to keep the concentration down, at least for the length of time it was happening. You probably had the furnace on also and that helped. Do it all night, and you might wake up dead in the morning.
What do you do after discovering your gas fireplace flue was closed during use?
I would have a gas applaince service rep examine the fireplace, and insure that no parts were damaged due to high heat- and leave a note for self to remember to open damper next time.
You have an old fireplace and think the flue may be cracked what can you do?
While I do much of my own work around the house, some things I leave to professionals- especially things that can burn my house down. If you check through the local listing for "Chimney Sweep" and "Chimney repair"- under contractors- you should find a company that can inspect your chimney for damage. If a clay flue liner has been cracked or damaged, they can replace it. There are also systems to install a metal liner that is grouted in place with high temp concrete grout. My chimney is cleaned once a year by a contractor that also builds and repairs chimneys- and is well worth what I pay him. When cleaning the chimney he also inspects for damage to the liner, bricks, flashing, etc.
Rotate them using your nunchuck until they are facing the wall, then move them down and attach them to the edge of the ledge you're standing on. Just walk down them!
Hope this helps, I only just got past them! Lol!
Whats the proper way to construct a fireplace so as to not fill one's home with smoke?
The answer to this would fill a small book! The fireplace has certain design measurements that are related to each other- size of opening at front, angles of sides, angle of slope at top, size of back, size of flue, depth of fireplace, height of chimney above surrounding surfaces, etc.
A fireplace that follows those design elements will work and burn well. When those designs are not followed, you will not only have a smoky house, but an increased risk of fire, carbon monoxide poisoning, etc. The design criteria are available- do a on line search for "fireplace design", check with your library- or find a mason that builds fireplaces, and buy him a cup of coffee.
PS- you will need more than one kind of brick- the firebox should be lined with firebrick- the flue lined with a clay tile liner (or metal flue).
What do you do if you are in the shower and your house catches on fire?
If you have time, then grab a towel. Otherwise, run out of there as fast as you can. Be careful not to slip and fall.

Is it ok to burn sweet gum wood in a fireplace in the home?
Yes. While the different varieties of gum are a chore to split, it can be used for firewood. Heat values are not as great as oak or hickory, but better than many woods.
Should the glass doors be shut when using a wood burning fireplace insert model?
Yes. It prevents smoke and sparks and etc. from coming out of the insert.
