There are a vast arrays of cleaners on the market, most DIY stores carry them. Without knowing what finish you have on the floor means we cannot give you definative replies however,;

  • Choose a cleaner that is compatible with your type of wood finish. Picking the wrong kind of cleaner can leave your floor looking dull and dingy instead of shiny and clean.
  • If you've got a polyurethane finish on your parquet floor, pick a cleaner made for finished wood floors-without a wax component.
  • If you've got an older wood floor with a varnish or other finish, you can use an oil based product that will work with your finish.
  • Using a soft cloth or a mop, clean the floor. Take special care with especially soiled areas.
  • Even if you normally choose to mop the floor, you may want to get down on your hands and knees for the deepest clean between the tiles.
  • After mopping, be sure to dry the floor and not let water sit on the surface. If water gets under the tiles, it can loosen the floor or expand the wood which leads to ugly cracks.
  • Drying the wood floor will stop water spots from forming as the water evaporates from the wood surface.

If the floor is really badly stained and marked it is sometimes better to hire in a floor sander and take off the surface back to the wood. This is ONLY as a final resort as you will then have to do every part of the fllor right to the edges and then clean off all debris and then start with a sealer, stainif needed, then a number of coats of a very good poly finish - you can wax it but this can take considerable times to dry and makes use difficult as its slippery

You don't put padding directly on a concrete floor. You have to frame out the floor, lay plywood sheets over the frame, probably want a vapor barrier as well. Then you can lay any pad and carpet you want. There are certain types of carpet that come with an attached foam padding that are designed to lay over concrete. If you think you want to just glue carpet directly to the concrete floor, check the mfg. warranty first. Most mfgs. will not honor their warranty unless they specifically state that it can be glued to concrete.
