Religion, speech, and being able to wear whatever you want..

Doesn't a request to see an elected public servant's birth certificate fall under the Freedom of Information Act?

In the U.S., there are both Federal and State level FOIA laws.

Information accessible varies according to the specific act you are trying to invoke. They are analogous to one another, but not the same.

In general, they allow the public access to the workings of government. Minutes of meetings, records of bids, and etc. are open. Copies of Vital Records are usually not specifically covered; most states have exemptions to access to personnel records. You may be able to find out what someone is paid, but not when that person was born.

We annually request the salaries of county employees at work, for instance. But not their personnel files.

How can you get your FBI records under the Freedom of Information Act?

You simply write a letter describing the documents and/or type of information you want released, and mail it to the FOIA office of the FBI. You will probably have to pay per page copying charges, etc.

Does FOIA cover minutes of Home Owners Associations?

If by FOIA, you mean Freedom Of Information Act, then according to the USDOJ Web site:

"The FOIA applies only to federal agencies and does not create a right of access to records held by Congress, the courts, or by state or local government agencies. Each state has its own public access laws that should be consulted for access to state and local records."

Apparently, you want to read the minutes of an association's board meeting. You may or may not be entitled to read them. The association may be a non-profit corporation, and your local laws regarding public access to private documents may apply.

If you are an owner -- a member of the association, you are entitled to read the minutes. If you are a prospective buyer, you are entitled to read prior years' minutes, perhaps up to three. If you are a tenant of an owner, the owner can make minutes available to you, or not, depending on the owner.

Finally, you can send a letter to the board of the association, and state your reason for wanting to read board meeting minutes, and ask the board to give you permission to read them. The board may grant or deny your request.

Note, however, that executive matters, such as payroll details, vendor disputes, individual account standings, and so forth, that are discussed among board members in executive sessions, are not available to anyone other than board members and the property manager who is covered by a confidentiality agreement.

Since you chose the insurance categories, you may be interested in the coverage of the master policy for the association or your requirement to maintain an individual HO-6 policy for your unit. You can ask the board direct questions about these matters, in a written letter, and request that the questions be discussed in an open board meeting. Then, attend the meeting to get the answers you want.

When Henry Stevens was doing research into Third Reich Flying Saucers he found that the US recorded Foo fighters under a different heading as so to throw off researchers. I will dig out the word used by the US Department of Records.

What important information does marullus reveal in Act 1?

An exchange follows in which the commoners joke and respond with considerable wit. Marullus is in no mood for their banter; both he and Flavius are jealous of Caesar's popularity and sympathetic to Pompey's causes. Marullus reminds the commoners that not too long ago they gathered in the streets to celebrate Pompey as their leader. He now orders them to return to their homes and repent of their disloyalty.

How does responsibility act in balance with freedom?

If you have a freedom of speech, you have a right to say anything you want, but that doesn't mean it is socially acceptable to say anything you want. Just like if you have a freedom to use guns, it is wrong/illegal to go kill somebody.
