What is the weather like in Fresno California?
There is a wide range of climate in Fresno. The summer months are hot and can get up to 110, but the average is about 95-100. The nice thing about the summer is the cooler nights when a slight breeze comes up at about 8:00 PM. Fall is much the same, but the nights get cooler and the first really cold night is usually close to the end of Oct. In the winter months it can range from a low of 32 degrees at night to 65-70 degrees in the day. The worse thing about the winter is the thick dense fog that settles into the area. That usually begins about late December and runs to about Feb-March. There are winter nights when everything does freeze and days when the fog doesn't lift. Spring months are rather nice, but in the last few years have gotten shorter. The average temperature is about 75-80 degrees and with cooler nights. Everything begins to bloom and bud in the spring so it is a pretty time of year.

It is my understanding that the "Five Cities" on the Central Coast of California are the clustered cities of Arroyo Grande, Oceano, Grover Beach, Pismo Beach, and Shell Beach. One reference is the "Transportation" page on the San Luis Senior website: http://sanluissenior.com/Transportation.html While these cities may be considered the modern 'Five Cities', the original ones were: Arroyo Grande, Halcyon, Fair Oaks, Grover Beach, and Oceano. While Fair Oaks was absorbed by Arroyo Grande, Halcyon does maintain its independence as an unincorporated community: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halcyon,_California

What is the meaning of the 'V' on the back of the Fresno State helmets?
When Pat Hill became Fresno State's head coach prior to the 1997 season, he wanted to reinvigorate San Joaquin Valley pride in the Bulldogs. Because Fresno State is the only Division I football program in the Valley, a 250-mile stretch in California's midsection from Bakersfield to Modesto, Hill wanted to make the Bulldogs the "Green Bay Packers of college football." As Coach Hill often states, Fresno State is not only representing Fresno, its representing the entire Valley.
"The people of this Valley are of vital importance to the success of this football program," said Hill. "They help us fund the program, they give us unparalleled support, and they are going to be the big reason we take this program to a level where we are consistently in the Top 25."
Hill has also shown his commitment to the Valley in recruiting -- 45 of the Bulldogs' 104 players (43 percent) are from the San Joaquin Valley.
