The only objection would be if it was Good Friday, which has the churches tied- up with honoring the Death of Christ. as a general rule- any bans on funeral masses are more for traffic-control than any other reason. There are regularily scheduled masses on Sundays, and also on major religious holidays. There is not problem with Fridays unless it is a major religous holiday- such as Good Friday.

I'm not an attorney but in my experience the answer is yes - that is one of the reasons people make sure there is money in their estate.

If you are speaking of "before dying" - it's known as Prearranged Funerals and these not only save thousands of dollars for the deceased family but also tons of grief is removed because it's already been handled. When hit with grief (sudden death) and no plans (estimates) made then families tend not to cut corners and are not CHEAP therefore; can nearly double the price of a funeral.

It depends on the church. the lively ( March of the Saints- on the way back from the cemetery- is New Orleans tradition- but in real life- more sombre airs are adopted. At the funeral of a family member in the church- it followed the pattern of a regular Mass and there were hymns- sung by the regular choir. the final hymn which included the blessing of the Coffin - holy water and such- was ( From Whom all Blessings Flow) with an air chime ( not a true carillon) in strategic spots. Very solemn, dignified atmosphere. One wonders, jocularily if this song ( not intended as a funerary air) mignt have been used in connection with Richard Nixon- from whom all Blessings Flow- get it. Besides the, err, turbulent waters!

There is no stipulation as to what colour clothes you can or cannot wear. Generally something that won't detract from the occasion.

It is a sheaf of wheat, not a sheath, that is a covering for a knife or sword, also called a scabbard. I am not sure this is a funerary custom. In some of the Scandinavian countries a sheaf of wheat is displayed in front of a House on Christmas, this being a local Yuletide custom, nothing morbid. As wheat is edible food stuff one could raise objections to a waste of useful food when people are hungry. I guess it must be a Scandinavian folk-way, as is the Yule custom that is similar.
