Can funeral services take place on a Saturday afternoon?

Sure, why not. The only objection would be if it was Good Friday, which has the churches tied- up with honoring the Death of Christ. as a general rule- any bans on funeral masses are more for traffic-control than any other reason. There are regularily scheduled masses on Sundays, and also on major religious holidays. There is not problem with Fridays unless it is a major religous holiday- such as Good Friday.

Why are estimates important in funerals?

If you are speaking of "before dying" - it's known as Prearranged Funerals and these not only save thousands of dollars for the deceased family but also tons of grief is removed because it's already been handled. When hit with grief (sudden death) and no plans (estimates) made then families tend not to cut corners and are not CHEAP therefore; can nearly double the price of a funeral.

Why didn't the sailor pallbearer at Margaret Thatchers funeral not wear white gloves?

I suspect this is another trick question. Did not the pallbearer at Margaret Thatvcher's funeral actually Not wear white gloves? Is that what The Queen was remarking upon?

The answer is simple.

This is no 1 Dress uniform for Tom (Royal Navy) who is only 22 yr old & the wearing of gloves is not part of it.

You will also notice that the Guardsman was also not wearing gloves this is because the Guards under the rank Full Sergeant do not wear white gloves as part of their Ceremonial Dress.

I think the whole bearer party did a fantastic job on the day particular Tom, but I guess I would say that as a proud Uncle!!

Who sings at a funeral?

It depends on the church. the lively ( March of the Saints- on the way back from the cemetery- is New Orleans tradition- but in real life- more sombre airs are adopted. At the funeral of a family member in the church- it followed the pattern of a regular Mass and there were hymns- sung by the regular choir. the final hymn which included the blessing of the Coffin - holy water and such- was ( From Whom all Blessings Flow) with an air chime ( not a true carillon) in strategic spots. Very solemn, dignified atmosphere. One wonders, jocularily if this song ( not intended as a funerary air) mignt have been used in connection with Richard Nixon- from whom all Blessings Flow- get it. Besides the, err, turbulent waters!

How do Jehovah's Witnesses mourn their dead or remember their anniversaries?

There is no formal religious ceremony to commemorate the anniversary of dead loved ones. Jehovah's Witnesses families will therefore remember their dead as they personally see fit.

Funerals are usually simple affairs followed by a gathering of friends and family to comfort the family of the deceased. Local customs are usually observed unless they conflict with bible principles.

How can you get financial help with funeral expences?

Many people buy life insurance exactly for this reason. If the policy is large enough, when the family member dies, his or her life insurance money covers the costs of the funeral. Sometimes friends and family members will offer to pay something to help out. Also, sometimes, family and friends will offer not necessarily financial help, but will offer to bring food and beverages to serve to visitors. If finances are an issue, you can keep the costs down by being upfront with the funeral home about your situation, and asking them to work with you in selecting a tasteful but inexpensive casket, floral arrangments, candles, and so on.

What does the sheath of wheat stand for at a funeral?

It is a sheaf of wheat, not a sheath, that is a covering for a knife or sword, also called a scabbard. I am not sure this is a funerary custom. In some of the Scandinavian countries a sheaf of wheat is displayed in front of a House on Christmas, this being a local Yuletide custom, nothing morbid. As wheat is edible food stuff one could raise objections to a waste of useful food when people are hungry. I guess it must be a Scandinavian folk-way, as is the Yule custom that is similar.
