How long can Geckos last without food?

A leopard gecko can go two weeks without food, but it is best to feed him/her ten crickets (or more) a week. I find it handy to put about twenty crickets or less in the cage with my leopard gecko at a time, as long as you keep an apple (or potato) slice for the crickets in the container and let him eat at his own pace. My gecko actually eats twenty crickets a week, but I don't think this amount is necessary because he has gotten a very fat tail (that is where they store extra fat). I've never tried pinkies or mealworms before, but I'm sure this method would work the same, but put the food they eat in the container and you don't need to feed quite as much to your leopard gecko.

What is a leopard geckos niche?

The leopards niche in the wild is a very complex yet simple role to understand. The leopard is a nocturnal predator which stalks its prey, with great agility and strength. The leopard, is not picky about its food, it will eat any thing it finds even dead animals, or humans. The leopard will kill and stalk humans in small groups and eat them, seeing them as prey. Humans have started to get angry over this, and have killed numerous leopards with their guns, leaving the carcass of the large cat for scavengers. The leopard will hunt during the day and at night, allowing it too kill numerous types of animals. The leopard will take baths in rivers and can swim. The leopard is hunted by no creature, but hunts many carnivores still. the leopard has many branches from its family such as the Amur leopard, which hunts in cold snowy conditions. This animal does not hibernate, so during the winter, its primary food source is starved deer, and sleeping carnivores. The Amur leopard is almost endangered so many carcasses of deer are left during the winter to become maggot infested.

How do geckos care for their young?

Why are geckos nocturnal?

The eye of a gecko is red so it's nocturnal. The eye - actually, to be more specific, the retinae, of a gecko is the reason why geckos are nocturnal. It's rather complicated to explain, but to make it short, the reason why geckos are nocturnal is due mostly the arrangement of cones and rods in the eye of a gecko. The cones and rods are description that is given to the shape of cells in the eye that help with sight, but they are also referred to as such.

What can geckos live in if kept?

Yes, almost any exotic animal store will carry species of geckos. As well as most aquarium stores and pet stores. It is always a good idea to seek out a local breeder. Do geckos like company?

Some geckos do and some geckos don't- it depends on the temperature that they were born with. If they were born at a hot temperature, they will be a hot female which means that they are very aggressive and won't like that much company. Male geckos usually want a companion with them, but sometimes, they will get tired of their companion and want their space back. Then, they will just keep wanting another female gecko again and again...ugh, men!

Do geckos suckle?

No. Most reptiles don't care for their young, with the exceptions of crocodiles and other members of that family. When a mother lizard lays her eggs, she will watch them until they hatch. When they hatch, the mother lizard will leave, leaving the babies to fend for themselves.

Do Geckos shed their skin?

Yes, geckos eat their skin. But first, their skin will get all white as they prepare to shed it off. Eventually, after about a week since their skin started getting white, the gecko will start to chew their skin off, revealing a beautiful new layer of colourful skin. The reason that geckos eat their shedded skin instead of just leaving it like snakes do is because their skin has calcium in it and it is healthy for them. While the gecko is young and still growing, it will shed about once a month, when the gecko becomes full size, it will on shed about 2-5 times a year.

Can leopard geckos eat crickets that you find outside?

The Rhacodactylus Cilatus, as well as it's neighbouring cousins are omnivores. Relying on a variety of: fallen fruits, Tree saps, Pollens, Nectar, Crickets, Roaches, Worms, etc.. They require the variety in their diet for the best results in growth and development. A crested geckos jaw structure is a lot weaker due to their diet. Due to this most breeders recommend a softer exo skeleton, and crickets and Dubai roaches perfectly match their needs.

Crickets being distributed throughout chain pet stores are constantly changing. The reptile hobby has now introduced the black field cricket, they are known to be harmful to your gecko if left in the terrarium over night, do not leave a feeding unattended using these. the common brown cricket is also readily available. The biggest difference between the two are their tendencies to jump. The blacks are a lot more active and the geckos have a dandy time chasing them down. Either of the two species of crickets are acceptable for the crested gecko.

Your crested should be on a weekly feeding routine, this can vary depending on the owner. Some people offer crickets once a week others twice a month. A healthy stable diet for both baby/young and or adult geckos are similar but this could be an accepted schedule:

CGD = Crested gecko diet

Where do albino geckos live?

They live in New Caledonia. In South Province to be exact. Once thought extinct they were rediscovered on New Caledonia, which lies in the southwest Pacific, in 1994.

Are common geckos asexual?

No. Both male and female geckos exist. However, in the case that no male geckos are available for mating, females can reproduce asexually to produce offspring genetically identical to itself. This is a common trait found in many reptiles and amphibians.

I believe Jurassic Park (the movie; I have yet to read the novel) draws on this idea when the female-only population of dinosaurs begins laying eggs and rearing young.

Why do leopard geckos need sand at the bottom of their cage?

Sand is the leading cause for impaction. Once the animal ingests sand, it can build up in the digestive tracks and the animal won't be able to pass it. Once impacted, most animals will not eat or drink due to the pain and this can lead to death. Most breeders do not reccomend loose substrates for this reason.

Depending on the species, Papertowel is a great source for holding moisture as well as it is very easy to clean and dispose of, as well as affordable.

Are crested geckos aggressive?

Unless you have two sexually mature males in the same enclosure, they shouldn't be. They are usually docile. They are a lot less flighty and skittish than leopard geckos when they are young and don't make too much of a fuss over being handled. Although in some cases, a female can express signs of dominance and can bully around other tank mates. Always be sure to monitor tank mates to ensure no fighting is happening. Be sure to quarantine animals prior to adding them to another animal/ group.

Can chameleons live with crested gecko?

Most chameleons are housed in a screened terrarium due to the lack of humidity they require. A crested gecko cannot sustain life in a screened terrarium due to the humidity that they require. These two species would never come face to face in the wild, therefore should not be housed together within the same terrarium. Animals of different areas/continents/regions cannot be housed together. They would require completely different heat, humidity, lighting, mistings etc..
