Where did George Harrison meet the rest of the Beatles?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Paul met John at a church social where John was playing a gig; John asked him to join shortly afterwards. George met Paul on the bus, going to the same school, and he joined the band in 1958. He lived in the same neighborhood as John and Paul, and Paul and him had similar interests in Skiffle, American rock, as well as going to Liverpool institute together. Ringo belonged to a local band called Rory and the Hurricanes, and joined when the Beatles were looking for a new drummer.

When did George Harrison get his first guitar?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

He was fifteen years old, and had been pleading for a guitar since Elvis Presley's music and image had reached England. His mother Julia bought him one by mail order, with a GUARANTEED NOT TO SPLIT label. Lennon kept it at her house at first (he lived with her sister Mimi), and learned tenor banjo chords from Julia, leaving the bass strings slack.

Lennon later brought the guitar home to Mimi's house (Mendips, on Menlove Avenue in Woolton), and learned proper guitar chords from Paul McCartney, and later George Harrison. Mimi banished him from the house when he wanted to play it, and he would lean against the patio's brickwork. Mimi later took credit for buying her nephew his first guitar.

When he was fifteen, and not long after Elvis Presley's music reached England, in 1956. His mother bought him his first guitar, through a mail-order company.

Yes. A movie about John Lennon is being made and has already been released in some parts of Europe. It's called "Nowhere Boy". It isn't so much about his life as a beatle, it's more about his life leading up to becoming a beatle and how he was remembered.

Asked by Wiki User

1971 - Recorded Imagine in England, then moved to New York with Yoko Ono. Was interviewed by Rolling Stone, and told his side of the Beatles breakup.

1972 - Campaigned against Richard Nixon with radicals Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman, and got into trouble with Nixon's administration.

1973 - Fought a deportation case against him, attended the Watergate hearings as a spectator, separated from Ono, lived in Los Angeles with May Pang, recorded with Phil Spector, and drank too much.

1974 - Kept fighting deportation, recorded with Harry Nilsson, Ringo Starr and Elton John, and had his first solo #1 hit with "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night". Also appeared with Elton John onstage over Thanksgiving; it was his last public performance.

1975 - Reconciled with Yoko Ono (who bore their son Sean), recorded with David Bowie, won his deportation case, settled the dissolution of the Beatles' partnership, and rode out his recording contract with EMI. Also settled a lawsuit by music publisher Morris Levy.

1976 to 1980 - Lived privately at the Dakota with Ono and Sean, and traveled around the world with them. Rested up from fifteen years in the public eye. Also tinkered with songs for a musical about his life with Ono.

1980 - Sailed to Bermuda (nearly dying in a squall), and began writing new songs, which he demoed there. Recorded Double Fantasy as a comeback album with Ono, back in New York. You know the rest.

When did George Harrison leave the Beatles?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

He quit for a couple weeks, during the White Albumsessions in 1968, but was persuaded to come back. (Paul and George covered his drums with flowers and welcome-back messages.) He attended the last overdub sessions for Let It Be, playing drums to help the strings and singers keep time. So he was arguably the last to go.

Who made George Harrison's sitar?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

That's hard to say. He bought his first one at a London store called India Craft; he got a better one coming back from the Far East in 1965, when they had a layover in India. Ravi Shankar gave him lessons, but let him gradually know that he'd probably never achieve his ambitions with it; he'd started way too late.

Harrison largely abandoned Indian music after the Wonderwall soundtrack... but the time he'd put in on scales and exercises gave him a different musical sensibility, and when he started playing slide guitar (after the Beatles broke up), it all paid off.

On what Beatles song did George Harrison first play sitar?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

"Norwegian Wood" was the first. Harrison had had no lessons or practice with the instrument, which he'd bought in a London music store, and simply "found the notes", to add something to the song. (He got a better sitar later, when they were on tour and laid over in India.) Once Harrison started getting more into his psychedelic stage he improved on his playing tremendously and was given a very unique hand crafted sitar that had a swan carved on the top of the neck. The story behind the swan is as follows:

The Rigvedic hymns dedicated to Saraswati mention her as a mighty river; symbolizing fertility and prosperity. In the post-Vedic age, she became increasingly associated with literature, arts, and music. Her name literally means "the one who flows", which reflects not just the flow of water, but of thoughts, and words. The Goddess Saraswati is often depicted as a, white-skinned woman having four arms. Her arms represent mind, intellect, alertness, and ego. Alternatively, these four arms also represent her children, the 4 Vedas, the primary sacred books for Hindus. A white swan is often located next to her feet. The swan symbolizes the ability to discriminate between good and bad, or the eternal and the evanescent. Sometimes a peacock is shown representing arrogance and pride over its beauty. The association with a peacock reminds us not to be concerned with external appearance and to be wise regarding the eternal truth.

Harrison later went on to write "within you, without you" a popular song of the time and one that would lead many to transcendental meditation.

George harrison wrote a song about that lawsuit?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

"My Sweet Lord" is melodically similar to "He's So Fine", recorded by the Chiffons. A judge determined that Harrison did not consciously plagiarize "He's So Fine", but likely unconsciously copied the melody. (His later song "This Song" took a tongue-in-cheek look at the case.)

The lawsuit went on for years, with Harrison's manager Allen Klein actually changing sides after he bought the publishing company that owned "He's So Fine". It counted against Klein in the long run, and Harrison ultimately ended up owning both songs.
