What is the most common house pet hamster or gerbil?

This question may have several answers because it is a debatable topic.

I think it is hamsters because only 2 people out of 20 in my class have guinea pigs, but 10 out of 20 have hamsters!

Guinea pigs and hamsters both make great pets, but the hamster is more popular. This doesn't mean it is a better pet, its just more commonly sold, owned and bred. -Joanna K.

How big does a cage need to be for 2 gerbils?

well...a two to three foot cage is recommended for one gerbil and if you two most likely a three foot cage or a four foot cage would be best

to make sure you don't spend to much money ...make sure you have two of the same kind of gerbil..boy and boy ...girl and girl because when gerbils have babies they have alot and then you need a bigger cage or multiple cages. =P

What meat can pet rats eat?

  • feeding a pet rat meat is usually a bad idea, because they usually develope a biting habbit.
  • False: It does not create a biting habit. Meat is good for rats and if they get grabby, it's because of you, not the food. They have have chicken, and red meat. Make sure it's well done and has no spices added to it. Mix it in with their veggies and do not feed them through the bars. THAT creates a biting habit.

How do you teach a gerbil tricks?

I've had good success with rewarding successive attempts. For example teaching them to get into my hand I started with giving a treat when they came to the cage door. Then they had to touch my fingers for a treat. Then they had to get into my hand for a treat. Once they got that far they pretty much had that trick down.

How do you teach a toddler his name?

from the age of 5 months I used to play with my little girl (Dua)esp during feed times; I would say 'Where's Dua', 'Where's Dua' and pretend to look everywhere for about half a minute; and then finally look at her and say 'there's Dua' - that I think is what taught her her name. she is now 8+ months and I still do it everyday. Now when she is playing I say 'Dua' and either she answers with a sound (if she is sitting where I can't see her) or turns and looks at me.

Why do mice chew paper?

Yes! Mine tend to wind it all around the cage makibg it impossible to find them lol but so cute

Is a mouse bigger than a gerbil?

Gerbils are actually the cross between a mouse and a rat.

What temp do baby mice need to be kept in?

Pet mice should be kept at room temperature, depending on where you live in the world. Obviously colder environments may need some warming device and for warmer areas, you can freeze a small bottle of water and place that in their enclosure. Personally i keep my mice in a well ventilated room that is a comfortable 23 Celsius - 28 Celsius. I would also suggest buying a small cage thermometer so you can track the temperature. You will notice they are more active in warmth and vice versa. Pet Mice Rule!

Would a pet cat eat a pet gerbil?

Yes, it is possible and likely that the cat would try to catch, kill and maybe eat the gerbil.

You should keep the gerbil in a cage that isn't accessible by the cat.

How long can you leave pet mice unattended?

You should not leave a mouse unattended outside it's cage; this is dangerous as it could get injured, escape or be attacked by something (like another pet). Inside their cage, a mouse can be left unattended for any length of time as long as the cage is clean and the mouse has enough food and water. A mouse should not be left alone too long if it is by itself (in it's cage) - mice are soical animals and therefore need the company of other mice.

Are pet rats expensive?

No! Not at all!

Feeder mouse/rats can be paid for around 60cents or maybe $1.

Other kinds of mouse/rats are around $3-$7.

Now! The equipment is going to be the pricey part. Cage could be $10 - $15. I wouldn't spend more than 15 dollars on a cage.

Shavings are going to like 3 or 4.

Youll definitely will want a running wheel that's like 3 also.

Special food can be bought for 8 dollars or you can just give leftovers lol they arent too picky.

So for feeder rat + 13 dollar cage + 4 for shavings + 3 for wheel + 8 for special bag food(optional) = $30. Of course this will vary but this is just the JUST of it. Hoped this helped.

I got my mouse for MUCH CHEAPER! I got mine for 15 dollars with everything but I already had the cage from my guinea pig... poor Clyde T_T

What are dangerous foods for mice?

Too much salt can harm your mouse or mice. I learned the hard way from my mice.

Why do gerbils have small ears?

Gerbils are desert burrowing animals, so I would think (I am not a biologist) that they have small ears to help reduce sand getting in their ears. They originated in Mongolia, which is between China and Russia (the old Soviet Union for those of us who are older), so it is colder there, so smaller ears would reduce heat loss as well. They are desert animals, but not all deserts are cold. :)

What is the difference between mice and gerbils?

Cats are felines while mice are rodents. Cats are carnivorous while mice are omnivorous.

How do you know if your gerbil is happy?

If a Gerbil is glossy and is growing fur then you are feeding it enough. Usually gerbils are happy if they have a mate or companion in the same cage and are provided regularly with food. Gerbils often respond to music and I have found with my Gerbils that they enjoy classical music with a woman singing. You can tell if they are relaxed if they are half closing their eyes. I own a gerbil. When he is happy he seems to squeak a lot. Also, he/she may get hyper and run and jump a lot. also if you hold it believe it or not gerbils purr you cant see it or hear it but you cant feel it

Do gerbils attract rodents?

Gerbils are rodents. Aswell as hamsters, guinea pigs, mice and rabbits. There are more rodents.

Can you keep a mouse with a gerbil and will they breed?

It depends what you mean by a baby, a true baby that is still suckling and learning to feed itself no, but mice can have babies from a young age, once they are weaned and independent from their mother and are about 5 weeks old, but they tend not to until they are fully grown and have the body fat reserves at about 2 months old.

How much does basic diving equipment cost?

Scuba diving is very money-intensive. If you rent basic equipment, figure on spending $100 per day, depending on how heavy your exposure protection (wetsuit) is. Buying basic equipment can easily run $500 or more, plus maintenance and repairs. A dive computer ranges from under $100 for a simple electronic gauge to several hundred dollars for a computer designed for multiple gas mixtures and high-end features.

Add in the fees for training courses and ticket prices to travel to warm-water dive sites, and it all adds up fast.

It's all worth it.

Can gerbils be given Motrin for pain?

Very doubtful. Baby aspirins are given to dogs for pain. Gerbils are too small of a creature. Give your local vet a call.

Is it safe to eat your boogers?

Well it's not potentially dangerous. It does contain bacteria, dirt, hair, and dust. Would you like to eat those? No? Well that's what your boogers are made of.
just go to any pre-school and your question will be answered.;)xD

How can you get rid of fat ankles when you are really skinny otherwise?

Quite honestly, barring all other answers here, your first action should be to go directly to the doctor. A general practitioner, family doctor or pediatrician (depending on your age), is suggested. There is a cornucopia of illnesses that directly cause swollen ankles. If I were you, I would rule out the possibilities of a serious illness before you worry about the cosmetic appearance of your ankles.

sometimes being skinny doesnt mean you are in shape. you can definently slim down your ankles with three months of consistent effort. start with calf raises on a step, and daily sprint training. "suicides"are a simple sprint traing method that will tone your ankles, quads and butt with a quickness. buy a jump rope and jump till you cant jump no more at least four times a week. carido is key. i know you say you are skinny and im sure you are thin but you can still burn fat and gain muscle. remember being skinny isn't being in shape. when you get done running your fist half marathon I'll bet ya' your ankles will be thin and sculpted. good luck!
Accept them. There is absolutely nothing you can do for fat ankles. They are there for life.I have them and it totally sucks, often I feel like a mutant. And ballet shoes are in this year. But so are wedges.Anyway try to focus on the positive, thin waist, cut arms. Most girls these days have fat guts-those are harder to hide.
i never had "fat ankles" until i got in my late teens, i guess its hereditory as my mum has them too. its more so excess fat around the bottom half of the calf/shin bone starting at the ankle bones but i HATE it. lately i have started walking slightly different (by putting pressure on the outsides of my feet instead of using the whole sole of my foot ) and i have started to notice the outside lower front bits of my shins begining to tone down...thank god! when on an exercise bike only have your toes on the pedals as this will get ur ankles moving more and help a little as well.
You could have edema (water retention).

Is it bad to roll powder in toilet paper and then eat it?

Eating toilet paper in small amounts is okay.

If you eat a lot of it though, it can cause internal blockage. Then, you have to undergo emergency surgery. If the surgery fails, it is fatal.

How do you stop a bloody nose?

  • Step 1
Begin by determining which nostril is bleeding. Roll up a small wad of issue and insert into the damaged nostril.
  • Step 2
It should be snug so that no additional blood comes out, but not painfully snug. This is to prevent a larger mess but it does not actually stop the bleeding.
  • Step 3
After the nostril is secure, take your index finger and thumb on one hand (doesn't matter which) and pinch the bridge of your nose.
  • Step 4
Make sure to pinch the firm part of your nose where the cartilage is. For best results pinch the middle of the nose (not too high on the bridge of the nose or too close to the face), applying moderate pressure.
  • Step 5
Place your fingers at the base of the cartilage, just before the nostrils begin to form. By squeezing the cartilage as opposed to your nostrils, you are stopping the blood flow higher up in the blood vessels and thus making it less likely that your nose will begin bleeding again.
  • Step 6
Hold your pinched nose for approx. 120 seconds. You may need to change the tissue once during this time. It minimizes the dried blood inside your nostril and makes determining when the blood flow has stopped easier.
  • Step 7
Once you are finished, wash your hands and face and continue doing whatever you were prior to the bloody nose. More importantly, do so without fear of additional bloody noses!

What is gestation period for gerbil?

I believe it is 21-24 days

---------------------------

21 to 30 days

------------------------------------------------

Having owned MANY rats I can tell you that for the average pet rat it is ABOUT 3 weeks from mating. However if you did not see the mating but are guessing from the size of the animal then,,, if it LOOKS pregnant put it in it's own box and leave it alone. It'll probably drop in less than 2 weeks. Remember though, leave it alone as handling the babies or stressing the mum may cause her to eat the babies.

21-23 days
