Rats are omnivores, like people. As such, your rat can eat just about anything you do! There are some foods that are dangerous for rats, and you can find a list of those here.

Male hamsters sometimes eat their young. I would suggest putting him in his own cage and keep the babies with their mother for the first 6 months or so.

Though, it also depends on the breed of hamster. Syrian hamsters cannot be kept with the female after they mate and give birth, because they'll eat the babies. Dwarf hamsters, however, can live amiably in groups, and the males actually help raise them. Also, depending on the breed again, I'm sure you can actually separate them earlier if they're weaned.

What I did was have a tough glove (or gardening glove) and hold the FRIGHTENED gerbil. Note:A frightened gerbil bites. Grab a napkin,toilet paper, or anything available like that and use it to cover up the wound. Maybe do something like watch TV or something while paying attention to your gerbil. Hold it there for a good 15 to 30 min and he should be fine. Be careful. If not attended to fast enough, the Gerbil could bleed to death.

If it's a minor problem: Try getting the gerbil some wood blocks to chew on. Uncooked noodles, stale bread, and other tough materials that won't be hazardous to the gerbil's health will help wear the teeth down. If it's a major problem, you should take your gerbil to a vet to get it's teeth properly trimmed.

Most gerbils enjoy sunflower seeds. I've seen them eaten the most out of a mixture and are often preferred.

Gerbils can chew on wood and any twig that is non toxic. Make sure that any natural piece of wood or twig has not been treated with any kind of pesticide or has insects lying within. I like to purchase a bag of wood toys made for rodents at a store. As stated in another answer I had given , I like to give toilet and paper towel rolls to them.( make sure no glue) Also, egg cartons with no substance of egg at all on them and coffee cup holders. They go crazy for them. I give them a couple of rolls a night and they chew away!!

it is not safe to feed gerbils any bread,(any kind)thus this will cause their tiny intestines to inflate.they will stop eating and die.

As gerbils are omnivores, they can eat most things, they can eat bread, just not too much. If you have to feed it bread, feed it wholmeal. Watered bread, mushed up dried food, and mushed up fruit (as instructed by the vet) saved my gerbils life when it pulled out its teeth. It has done so 4 times since and hasn't yet died. But don't ever feed it too much so be sparing with it (perhaps only once a month or so, give it 1cm2 for example).

Yes most gerbils love them but they should only be given as treats so maximum of 2-3 each a few times a week otherwise it can cause them to become overweight.

grebils will live anywhere from 1 to 4 years. some (like mine) may reach 5 or even 6 years of age. given that a normal human living in good conditions can live to 80 a single human year is equal to 16 gerbil years

Just wait. It will grow back! Although the new tail may look different.... Make sure that you feed the gecko lots of fatty foods, as the stored fat in the tail has fallen off. Isolate the gecko to prevent other geckos from feeding from the wound (if any others are with it). Isolation also helps prevent bullying. If you see scratches on one of your gecko's legs, it may be bullied. Never hold your gecko by the tail, as this will cause it to fall off. Geckos drop their tails so that the creature that has caught them will get confused and the gecko can make a quick escape. I hope this helps!

Gerbil bites, like any other kind of wound, can get infected. Take all the precautions you would for any other kind of animal bite--clean the wound thoroughly and use an antibiotic ointment, like Neosporin, to help prevent infection.

But some gerbils play at night, the person who answered before me and also my friend have the problem of their gerbils playing on their wheels at night but my friend now takes the wheel out of the cage just before they go to sleep and back in when they get up, so you can do that if you have a problem with it.

A female gerbil paired with a male can have pups at six weeks of age, so at 10 weeks she can give birth. The pair will mate right after birth and she will be pregnant while raising her litter. A female will breed until around 2 years of age, most likely she will become infertile (breeding all the time is NOT good for her health). So she can have up to 24 litters of 3-6 or even 8 pups. Nearly all of the pet gerbils in the United States originated from the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. If you purchase a gerbil from a pet store then it likely came from a farm where small animals are mass produced for pet store purchases. They may also come from local research labs or from homes where the owner could not care for them. The employees generally don't know where or how the animal came to be there.

If you purchase a gerbil from a local breeder then you will know when the gerbil was born and have some assurance that it comes from a humane and understanding environment. A good breeder will have no problems telling you where they got their gerbils and will outbreed as much as possible. Outbreeding is the opposite of inbreeding and ensures the health and longevity of the litters that are born.
