you should really take it to the vet. i don't think it is a good idea to put the injured gerbil back in the cage though.

Play with it more and when it gets older get 2 baby gerbils to keep it company.

That isn't a question that can be answered scientifically. It really depends. Although, as true with most animals, I probably will try. But then again, if you have somehow trained it to not run away it may not.

As long as there are no mites or bacteria, sure. Rodents love to chew on sticks and such. I'd also recommend dog biscuits.

I guess it would depend on what kind of light you mean. I have lights on some of my tanks (with 56 gerbils, I have a lot of tanks, but not enough lights for all of them). What I have noticed is that the gerbils that are under the lights are easier to see and seem to be more illuminated. Okay, that is somewhat facetious.

I wouldn't put a gerbil really close to a light bulb any more than I would put my hand really close to a light bulb. I wouldn't want to risk touching something that may be hot. On the other hand, I have a heating light bulb (the red kind they sell for reptiles) that I keep as part of my "medicine cabinet". If I have a sick gerbil, I will attach it to the tank and point it at one corner of the tank and adjust it to about 80 degrees, but make sure that the gerbil can easily get to the other side of the tank where the temperature is ambient (i.e. regular room temperature). Another way to do this is to put a heating pad under one corner of the tank. I use a thermostat to cycle the lamp on and off to keep it a steady temperature.

So I guess the short answer is that if you put a gerbil directly under a light, and the light is putting off heat, and the heat is enough to burn your hand, it would likely be enough to burn your gerbil, so DON'T do it.

No. Just keep in mind when placing the cage that it it's a wire cage, gerbils will kick their shavings everywhere and it will most likely Mae a mess around the outside of the cage. Also keep in mind that if the door is left open or the lid is left off or whatever, they will probably take the escape chance. With the cage on the floor, the gerbil's free to go. With it on a table, the gerbil may be trapped, or, they may jump and get themselves hurt. Just think out the scenerios when placing the cage.

The same thing happened to me, I bought 2 female gerbils from the pet store and then found babies in the cage one morning. Check online pictures of male and female gerbil genitalia so you can determine which one is the male. You need to put the male in a separate cage or they will keep mating and making more babies. Gerbils mate again right after the babies are born, so you might end up with another litter even after you separate them. I just wanted to know if this cage is suitable (Alexander small pet cage on zoo plus) I know on the website it says yes but when i look online everyone says it needs to be glass?

If your gerbil is female she may be pregnant but in the case of single or male gerbils check the cage for hidden food after feeding because they might be over eating. If a gerbil hasn't eaten in a while and then is fed this could cause sudden over eating or weight gain.

Gerbils do cost alot as they cannot be placed in any old cage; they need a gerbilarium. These special cages are very costly, they are made of glass so that the gerbils cannot chew through and escape. They need lots of sawdust to cover the floor as they dig; its part of their nature. They can eat alot. They need a partner to live with; they can become very unhappy if left to live on their own and can die of lonelyness. They need lots of hay to build their nests with. Their toys cost more as they are made to be non chewable. But they are very clean animals and hardlyurinate or excrete, which mean they only need to be cleaned every two weeks. Some only need to be cleaned every month!
