German Shepherds

Any dog owner should know that you should never feed dogs chocolate.

They need lots of protein in their diet. Try and get a kibble food from a local pet shop that sells a brand with protein and veggie diet.

I Have a German Shepherd my own and I know a lot about them. First, you should probably check and see if its ok with your family because their behavior has to be monitored around small children. Their behavior is not aggressive, their just being protective for their family and their master. That is why they are a very friendly loving and loyal dog.

There are several breeds that look very similar to a German Shepherd. These are:

1) Silhoh Shepherd

2) Belgian Tervuren

3) Belgian Laekenois

4) Belgian Malinois

5) Belgian Groenendael

6) Anatolian Shepherd Dog

7) Beauceron

No dog hates another dog.

If they are both socialized and good with other dogs there is no problem.

Akita's however, have been known to live in harmony for years with another dog and then suddenly kill it for no reason so be careful.

Stay away from negative dogs towards others such as Presa Canaria's and Cane Corso's and maybe Akita's and Rotweilers but another Lab or Shepherd or even a mix would work well :)

German Shepherds are very smart dogs. Many police use them as the K- 9 unit. You can teach them to do unbelievable things! Some dogs do tricks for treats or just for you to give them a good pat.

Probally one of the most basic tricks is Sit. To make them sit, take your dog and a treat, hold the treat in your hand, and wait until the dog puts his/her butt on the floor. Right when she/he does, immediatly reward him with a treat saying "Sit." Keep doing that and eventually Rover will get the idea. Pretty simple. You can teach them to do other things like stay or lay down. You can make him/ her lay down by holding a treat in your hand, make them sit, then put your hand to the ground. Your dog will follow it, and lay down. Once he/she is on the ground, laying down, Say "Lay down" Or whatever you want to call the trick. Be sure to encourage and praise your dog alot, and not to yell at him/ her if she/he messes up. Try not to get frustrated, it takes patience to train a dog.

If they were severly hungry and needed sustainence yes, but they were fed as well as the soldiers in rationed amounts.

Shepards are strong, brave and intelligent; labs are loyal, energetic and easily trainable.

Alsatians can get many different allergies from food allergy's and certain shampoo's to daisy's and hay fever :)

Yes German Shepherds do bark a lot.

It is totally natural for them as they have a high protective instinct for their family.

They wish to protect them and so barking at any noises from people walking past to unusual bird calls can set them off, it's basically their way of saying: "This is my house, I am protecting my family so keep away!"

However you're talking about a wild animal hardened by natural selection and survival versus a tame pet. Wild animals know how to fight and survive.

Shepherd versus 3 coyotes, 3 coyotes wins hands down. Even 2 coyotes would very likely be victorious. They know how to bite to kill, tame shepherd does not.

If you have a bath with shower and portable plug on's that will do just fine, if not a trip to your groomer.

They love to be trained to sniff things out also run for a ball and play in water, but you must start early with the water thing or they will be to scared.

A GSD can't have anything such as surgery due to the fact that it is genetic.

Medicine to dull pain can be bought however.
