Particles (either of algae, bacteria, or waste) that cloud the water are too small for most conventional filter pads to collect, as they are more intended for larger waste. First one must determine the root cause of the cloudiness to properly treat the condition. Easiest way is to determine color, length of tank operation, recent changes to decor, inhabitants or other factors.

This depends on the size of your tank. They can grow as large as ten inches in a pond. I purchased a feeder golfish 8 years ago and today in my ten gallon tank she is around 5 inches.

I am guessing that you mean a Plecostomus. The answer is NO. Each of the species needs totally different conditions. Goldfish are cold water fish and suffer when the temperature goes over 75F. Plecostomus are tropical fish and suffer when the temperature goes below 75F. They will both survive for a while in one anothers parameters but eventually they will die from living in the wrong conditions.

yes because once i got a betta fish and i put in a tank with a gold fish the first day the betta killed the goldfish so i boult a nother goldfish it did not kill the goldfish because i put them in sepret tanks so that's what you guys should do it because i did it try it people your goldfish will not dy.

my goldfish was a fin-nipper that's why it killed it because the goldfish ripped a fin off of the betta so do not put betta fish with goldfish because you never no if the goldfish is a betta.

No fancy goldfish should not be housed with the more common varieties of goldfish because common goldfish are more aggressive and can swim faster which in turn would result in competition over food causing the fancy goldfish to become stressed and more susceptible to disease. Also common goldfish may damage the fancy goldfish's delicate fins by nipping at them.


This (above) may be true in some cases, but I have a 15' x 8' outdoor pond with 2 fancy goldfish, 2 Sarassa Comets (goldfish) and 2 common goldfish and they all get along fine with each other as well as with my 2 Koi. I watch them eat and everyone gets enough, although the fancies are timid when it comes to getting the food. I wait until the others have eaten alot and throw out more food in their direction. Both my fancies are huge and the biggest I have ever seen anywhere.

That sounds like my tank. If you have a filter then you need to replace or clean it on a regular basis. You may need to remove the fish from the tank and clean it. If you do then take some water from the tank that the fish are in and put it in another container. Take the fish out of their tank and put them in their old water in the new container. Drain all the old water out of the tank and rinse/wash all the rocks, gravel, plants, and other things that were in the tank. Wash the walls of the tank. Make sure that you rinse any soap off of the tank and the rocks and stuff before you put new water back in it. Fill the tank with clean water. You may need to treat the water for chlorine if you used city tap water. Do not put the fish back into the tank until the new water temperature is the same as the water they are in now. We don't want them to go into shock. You may want to buy a sucker fish and a couple of snails. They will eat the alge that grows on the glass and everything else. Good luck. You can tell the difference between male and female fish by a female wouldn't have as colorful gills as a male would or if you still can't tell the female would be a slight bigger than the male

Not very long. In order for your goldfish to have a good environment and long life, you must do one water change at least once a week and clean your filter at least once a month. If you have an unsanitary tank, your goldfish will suffer from diseases caused by poor water quality, such as ammonia poisoning, ich, and fin rot. Keep your tank clean!

It depends how ripped it is. If it's very severe, they could die due to not being able to swim and reach its food. If however it's a tiny rip, you shouldn't worry much. I've had fish with ripped tails and they were fine ;)

No it will eat a bit of algae but it certainly won't be capable of cleaning the tank. The amount it eats will depend on how long it takes before the turtle kills/eats the algae eater.

Yes, but you need to make sure you do not shock the fish when you change the water temperature. To do this properly; you need to put the fish in a plastic bag with water from the aquarium it is in, put the bag with the fish in it on the water of the pond, the fish and bag will float on top. Leave this there for about an hour before opening the bag and pouring the fish gently into the pond. Make sure there is plenty of water in the bag that the fish can swim in if the bag floats sideways to prevent any injury to the fish.

Water temperature in the aquarium should be kept in the 75-80 F range.

Yes they do. I went & looked in my tank the other day and saw my snail on the gravel then i went back 20 minutes later and my snails shell was on its back with the shell empty. I then looked in the tank again 5 minutes later and one of my comet goldfish was vomiting up my snail :(

Sometimes this cannot be fixed if it has gone on for too long, or if it is, it may be temporary.

You will need to ensure that your tank water is very clean, and you will need to stop feeding your goldfish for 3 days to give it's system a rest. Next, you need to feed it cooked & de-shelled peas 2 times a day for 3 days (it will not be very many peas over those 3 days) with a small grain of epsom salt in one of the pieces of pea each day. Peas and epsom salt are a form of laxatives for goldfish and should help them clear out their system.
Swim bladder is commonly caused by constipation, but in some cases, it's a faulty swim bladder for that particular fish.

If they tail have been damages up to the body it is less common for it to grow back. If the tail is damaged only partly then yes, it will grown back but it may not be as perfect as it was before.

It has been reported that goldfish will loose colour if kept in low light conditions so I guess if you are silly enough to want to not see your fish and keep them (it) in the dark to find out if it goes white that is your right.

It is quite possible that the Convict cichlid would kill a fish as small and slow as a Betta. I would not try to mix other peaceful species with large aggressive fish like Convicts.

Goldfish do not come into 'heat' they simply come into breeding condition around springtime. Provided they are in a large enough tank/pond and all the other requirements are met regarding their health and condition they usually spawn when temperatures rise to around 70F-75F. If for some reason they do not spawn but have been in condition to do so, once conditions no longer suit spawning (variable time) the ova are absorbed back into the fishes body.

Yes, but normally they grow back slowly. However, if fin rot has reached the base of the fin, then the goldfish would be in pain the rest of its life.
