It depends on who you are donating them to, mens clubs are longer and usually heavier, the majority of them have steel shafts which are less flexible than the graphite shafts which are usually found on womens clubs. Many women would find it hard to hit mens clubs well because as mentioned, they usually have stiffer shafts which make it harder to get the ball off the ground and they sometimes have less loft which also makes it harder to get the ball airborne. Mens clubs are longer so it may be too long for the woman and she would have to customise her swing to hit it well which is not good. Some women prefer woods or hybrids as they have a lower centre of gravity which makes it easier to get the ball off the ground. If a man got a womans club i wouldn't suggest they use them as the shafts could be too whippy and they would not get the best from them. Clubs for men and women are designed specifically for the different users so they can get the best from them, younger golfers may find womens clubs useful as they are shorter and they can grow into mens clubs.

In the early 1970's, my grandmother (Massey) told me about her 2nd or 3rd cousin named Arnaud Massy (note spelling) from France that had won numerous Opens (French Open - 4 times & was at age 48 in 1925) (1907 British Open) (1912/1925/1926 Spanish Open). I'm sorry but the only thing I remember from her stories is that she said it had rained like cats & dogs in 1907 during the British Open. With consistent force being the same using both bat's, it would be a linear equation essentially. Even so, if the only difference is the length, or leverage, it doesn't matter at all. A 45" bat will hit the ball the same distance as a 48" bat if collision was to occur in the exact middle. The only difference would be the mass, mass only makes use of itself in a forceful way if it can all be utilized. It cannot all be utilized if you hit it in the center, it has to be at the farthest end from the handle to be utilized. It's like lighting a 60 second fuse on a stick of dynamite half-way down and still expecting the full seconds of safety...... not gonna happen.

Now, if you were a good batter and utilized the 47th inch of the 48 inch bat, you could gain at least 20 ft with the bat moving @ about 75 mph as oppose the 44th inch of the 45 inch bat @ 75 mph. It's the weight that matters though, not necessarily the length.

I have a hickory shaft putter with dimbled face that I just receintly purchased at a local antique store. They were asking 75 dollars but because I purchased some other items he let me have it for 20 dollars. The club is in very good condition. I am trying to find out its age and where they were made.

You hit a provisional when the ball you just hit might be lost outside of a hazard. Usually that means you think you have hit it out of bounds or into some sort of mess where it's unlikely that you will find it. Hitting a provisional means that you are taking stroke and distance IF you don't find your first ball. If you find your first ball anywhere in play (whether or not you like where it is or even if it's unplayable) before you hit your provisional after reaching where the ball is likely to be, then the provisional is cancelled and you continue with your first ball, just as though you never hit the provisional. Once you've reached the point where your ball probably is and hit the provisional again, you're stuck with the provisional and the stroke and distance penalty that you took. This is covered in Rule 27-2, see www.usga.org. There are many interesting decisions related to this one, mostly about what constitutes a "lost" ball.

I went to one of these clinics held at the Purdue University South Course held with Ben Hogan back in the 1950's. He demonstrated how to grip the club and hit drives. He had been having problems with hooking and had learned to pronate his hands to have a slight fade on the drives, instead of the hook he had had trouble controlling. I believe this clinic was probably around 1956, but is could have been later.

Pulling iron is talking about the way a person swings their clubs in golf. Some people will naturally "pull their iron" to the left or right when they swing, making it difficult to get a straight shot on the golf ball.

Most golfers tend to call a birdie on every hole, "perfect." But, this is demonstrably false because perfect, by definition, cannot be improved upon, and people HAVE improved upon 18 under par.

A TRUE perfect game would be 18. A hole in one on every hole. It's never been done before, but it IS achievable in theory. It's the absolute best you can do, which would make it a perfect game.

"Ambrose Golf" is another name for a scramble, but one in which a team handicap is used. The Ambrose format is very popular as it allows all levels of golfers to mix and play together. It requires teamwork and minimizes the amount of time looking for lost balls, thus speeding up play. One score is thus recorded on each hole. This is the sum of the best shots used throughout the hole. Groups of between two to four players work as a team. Composition of each team is an important factor. The composite skill levels of each team should be as close to equal as possible. For example, there should not be a team of golfers who all can score in the low 80s and another team where all the players score in the 100s. The 80s team will beat the 100s team consistently even with a handicap adjustment. For a team of 2 golfers, the combined handicap of both players is divided by 4 to arrive at the team handicap. For 3 golfers, divide by 6 and for 4 golfers divide by 8. When the team's round score is totaled, subtract the team handicap to arrive at the net score. Each player hits off the tee and then the team selects the optimal shot to use as the team shot. Optimal does not necessarily mean the ball closest to the hole, since during the course of the complete round, each player's tee shots must be used a minimum number of times (usually 3 or 4). All other players pick up their ball and, in sequence, hits a second shot from within 1 club length of the "optimal ball", but no closer to the hole and not outside any hazard that the "optimal ball" landed in. The optimal shot is again selected and all golfers hit their next shot from there. This continues until the ball is in the hole. On the putting green the optimal ball location is marked and the other balls are played from this position.

Hi try teeing your ball lower than normal say only 1/3 above club head (instead of half) then hit as normal the lower trajectory should create more roll you may also try teeing ball higher then hover clubhead off the ground before swingin this shallows the arc and creates more topspin to ball balll may not fly high but will certainly roll long way if its a flat hard fairway......
