Graphs

Graphs often collect a set of data in a group of people. There are many kinds of graphs: pie charts (circle charts), bar graphs, line graphs, data tables, pictographs, flow charts, histograms, etc.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a picture graph?

One significant advantage of a picture graph is its ability to convey information in a way that almost anyone is able to comprehend. They are also great for utilizing in a learning environment.

How do you make an excel graph with a logarithmic scale?

first make your graph with all the points and then once you've done that and you have your graph... double click on one of the scale values on either the x or y axis, look for the 'scale' tab and check the box 'logarithmic scale'....hope it helps

The above is incorrect. There is no option for log scale on the x axis. The data will have to be provided in in logarithmic scale for the x axis to depict it as such.

How do you make a line in Microsoft Word?

It depends whether you want your line in the middle or on the bottom of the line.

In the middle: use this sign " - " and just type it as long as you need the line. They will stick together

On the bottom: use this character " _ " and do the same

What chart compares values side by side broken down by category?

A bar chart can do that. There are lots of types. You can have standard ones, or stacked bar charts.

What is the advantage of using plastic container over tin?

The advantages of using plastic bags are -

1) They are light in weight.

2)They are commonly available everywhere.

3)If they are used again and again the are very useful.

4) The shopkeepers do not take money for otherwise they will take money for cloth and paper bags because they are expensive.

5)They are very cheap to produce.

*THERE ARE NOT MUCH ADVANTAGES OF USING PLASTIC BAGS.

Where is data that can controlled placed on a line graph?

Data that can be controlled on a bar graph is known as an independent variable and can include things like temperature, time, depth, etc. This data is placed on the horizontal X axis.

What line graphs and bar graphs the values measured by the axis depend on the values measured by the horizontal axis?

In line graphs, the values measured on the vertical axis typically depend on the values on the horizontal axis, illustrating trends over time or relationships between variables. Similarly, in bar graphs, the height of the bars on the vertical axis represents different categories or groups, which are determined by the categories labeled on the horizontal axis. Both types of graphs effectively convey how one variable changes in relation to another.

How do i create a bar graph with multiple variables?

You can either use multiple bars: these are bars for single variables which appear in groups. Sometimes it is appropriate to use stacked bars, where the bar for the groups are stacked, one on top of another.

What is a disadvantage to using tables?

it is often difficult to solve complicated problems alone

What is shown on a y-axis on a figure?

If there is one independent variable, and one or more dependent variables, then they would be plotted on the y-axis. If there are a mix of discrete and continuous variables, then the continuous variables should be plotted on the y-axis. In general, though, any variable can be plotted on the y-axis.

Is there a situation when a graph is not appropriate?

Yes. When the person for whom the statistical analyses is carried out is someone who cannot easlly take in information in visual form.

Why do scientists display data in graphs?

Graphs are a convenient way to display relationships between variables.

What the difference between histogram and a bar graph?

A bar graph cannot have classes with different width. The height of a bar graph represents the frequency attributed to that class whereas in a histogram the area of a "bar" is proportional to the frequency, the height represents the frequency density.

How can you tell whether a histogram has an outliner?

If the border of each column in a histogram has a clearly marked outline then it has an outliner.

When building a line-graph a person would place the what on the x-axis?

If one of the variables was independent or if there was a causal relationship between the two variables, then that variable would be placed on the x-axis. If there were no independent variable but one of them was discrete then that would usually be on the x-axis. Otherwise, any variable could be placed on the x-axis.

What is a barplot?

A barplot is another term for a bar chart, a graph in the form of boxes of different heights, with each box representing a different value or category of data.

What is the difference between a bar graph and a histogram?

What is the difference between a bar graph and a histogram?

There are two differences, one is in the type of data that is presented and the other in the way they are drawn.

In bar graphs are usually used to display "categorical data", that is data that fits into categories. For example suppose that I offered to buy donuts for six people and three said they wanted chocolate covered, 2 said plain and one said with icing sugar. I would present this in a bar garph as:

Histograms on the other hand are usually used to present "continuous data", that is data that represents measured quantity where, at least in theory, the numbers can take on any value in a certain range. A good example is weight. If you measure the weights of a group of adults you might get and numbers between say 90 pounds and 240 pounds. We usually report our weights as pounds or to the nearest half pound but we might do so to the nearest tenth of a pound or however acurate the scale is. The data would then be collected into categories to present a histogram. For example:

might be a histogram for heights (with the appropriate scale on the vertical axis). Here the data has been collected into categories of width 30 pounds.

The difference in the way that bar graphs and histograms are drawn is that the bars in bar graphs are usually separated where in histograms the bars are adjacent to each other. This is not always true however. Sometimes you see bar graphs with no spaces between the bars but histograms are never drawn with spaces between the bars.

What does a straight line tells you on a line graph?

It tells you that the two variables in the graph change together at the same rate. There may or may not be a causal relationship between the tw variables: both could be related to a third variable which is not part of the graph.
