A mouth ulcer is like any other ulcer, just in your mouth. It is essentially an open wound (which is why getting salt in it hurts so much)that will have a hard time clearing up on its own. Ask a pharmacist to recommend a topical treatment that you can apply with a Q-tip. Ask for one that has a topical anasthetic to relieve the pain temporarily. Orajel is a product that comes to mind.

From one aspect the PDL space would be bordered by the alveolar bone of the mandible or maxilla (depending which arch the tooth is located in) and from the other aspect the PDL space would be bordered by the root of the tooth, or more specifically the cementum.....or even more specifically desmisomes and hemidesmisomes. OK....now I'm just nerding out and I REALLY need to go to bed and not stay up all night answering dental questions.

It is most likely the metal margin showing from the fake tooth (the white part of the fake tooth is not on the edge, so it looks black)

A "perio probe" or "Periodontal Probe" to be exact, is a long thin ( blunt at the end) metallic instrument used by dentists, hygienists and orthodontists to explore inside the mouth. primarily used to check below the gum-line without damaging the gums.
