Gymnastics is unique because it is one of those sports like basketball where it isn't called something different whether a boy or a girl plays it. It can be fun, challenging, scary, and one of the best times of your life. Also because it is scored unlike most sports, and the competitions consist of team work and yourself. How long do you hold a balance for in gymnastics?
It depends. If you are really strong, coordinated, and flexible then you can probably get away with little balance. If you have really good balance, you do not have to be as strong, coordinated, or flexible to do certain skills. It also depends on what type of gymnastics you are doing. A cartwheel of the beam takes more balance than a cartwheel on the floor.
Should you wax for a gymnastics meet?
Generally, there'd be very little advantage to doing so because most of a gymnast's speed, rotation, and power do not come from a lack of air friction, but rather from technique, fast-twitch muscle development, and repetition of skills in practice. But if it makes you more comfortable during the meet to be hair-free, then I'd say do whatever makes you perform better at competition (short of anything illegal).

How has rhythmic gymnastics changed over time?
Modern gymnastics was originally developed by the two main founding fathers Johann Guts Muth (Swedish, rythmic) and Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (German, apparatus), as an exercise regime for men and boys. It was fundamental in the preparation of combatants for the German Army of Liberation against the Napoleonic Army of Occupation. Jahn also created the horizontal bar, parallel bars and the vault, though they were much different than they are known for today. Modern Gymnastics appeared for the first time at the 1896 Olympics in Athens. Although women demonstrated the sport at the 1908 Olympics, women did not compete in the Olympics until 1928. Some of the first events seen in the Olympics from gymnastics included: running, synchronized team floor calisthenics, rope climbing, high jumping etc. Now female gymnasts compete on the floor exercise, vault, uneven bars, and balance beam. Male gymnasts compete on the floor exercise, vault, parallel bars, horizontal bar, pommel horse and rings. Nadia Comaneci was the first gymnast to receive a perfect score in the 1976 Olympics. In 2006, gymnastics saw it first change in the point system. Originally gymnasts were scored on a basis of 1 -10. 10 being the highest. But now gymnasts have a start value. This means that the gymnast performing the routines can choose the difficulty level of his/her skills. The higher the difficulty level of the skills in the routine, the higher the starting value will be.
How do you get the splits in under a week?
I learned my splits in a week so i know it is possible!
First check how far you are SAFETLY! fallow these safety tips:
let your self down easy and keep your chest up and MOST IMPORTANTLY NEVER COME BACK UP FROM YOUR SPLITS FAST YOU CAN BREAK YOUR KNEE CAP!!!!!
So after you figure out how far you can go down go from there. for a day focus on getting down farther. you can push your self farther down on a wall.
then another thing you can do is get a gymnastics mat fold it up and put one foot on it and the other on the floor and try to do the splits on that.
or you can lay against a wall and put your legs out on the wall. then do pulsing crunches while holding on to your inner thighs your legs lower after a minute or 2 alot! all these things help esspecially streatching!
YOU ONLY WANT TO SPEND DEPEnDING oN THE DAYS OF YOUR WEEK IT IS 5 DAYS YOU ONLY WANNA SPEND ABOUT 3 DAYS ON DOING THESE. IF IT IS 7 DAYS THEN SPEND 4 DAYS ON THESE. AFTER THAT JUST PRACTICE ALOT AND AS WARM UPS YOU SHOULD STILL DO THOSE STREATCHES BUT YOUR MAIN FOCUS FOR THE LAST DAY SHOULD BE ON GETTING FARTHER DOWN AND PRACTICING.!
hope this helped and GOOD LUCK
love always

What is the same about cheerleading and gymnastics?
It's NOT!!!!
I personally think that gymnastics is much harder than cheerleading. I did gymnastics since i was small. I made it on team when i was 7, but decied not to join, cause it seemed time consuming. But gymnastics, you have to be very strong, flexible, not scared to try new stuff, and balanced. In gymnastics you have vaut, beam, bars, and floor. In cheer you have cheers, dance, tumbling and stunting. Plus you don't wear shoes in gymnastics. They are the same because they both have tumbling, and they both learn routines, and that's about it.

Gymanstics, as an activity sport, has been around for over 2000 years but as an competitive sport it is a little more than 100 years old. Mass and individual exhibitions were conducted by various clubs and ethnic groups such as the Turvereins and Sok ols. While it was slow-growing in the club area, it was fast-growing sport in the Turvereins and Sokols. In 1830s, the sport of gymnastics was introduced to United States and its school systems by such immigrants as Charles Beck, Charles Follen and Franci s Lieber. In 1881 the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) was formed, later was renamed to Bureau of the European Gymnastics Federation. This organization pioneered the international competition. The Amature Athletic Union (AAU) was formed in United Sta tes in 1883. Along with other amature spotts in United States, this organization took over the control of the gymnastics in U.S. Various "championships" started to develop by various clubs and organizations at about the same time during 1880s.
